Housing issues at Emirates

I heard a pilot had just been given the choice to pay close to 10.000USD to stay in his accomodation or to move within two weeks....nice christmas present. Can anyone confirm ?

Carbo.

Doubt that's true at all. If you opt to move they give you seven days notice from the time you collect the keys for your new place, or if they want you out you have no choice, but they will probably give you more than two weeks to pack your bags.

Puff,
Actually they have done it in the past with 2 weeks notice. EK accomodation has a "rent cap" in place that if the landlords rize the rents above, the company will require you to make up the difference, or move you to other company accomodation of their choice, or you take the allowance. Yes all these decisions and the move all in a space of less than 2 weeks! I personally know of a few individuals victim to this policy. The voluntary moves to DSO were different as the tennancy contracts were not expiring for those villas being vacated.

Depends how serious the guy wants to stay in accommodation.

There is a rent cap of 15 % much written in the local rags how this is disregarded however there are all so those who have taken on the bandits and one.

Do a goggle on the local Newspapers and you will find the info.

Just depends if you want to jump through the hoops. A 10,000 USD payment to stay sounds like Bar Talk when the company could go and demand max 15% increase or the guy concerned could have a yarn to the rent Committee.

uplock, not so sure it's bar talk. Didn't hear anything, so just assuming here...
Average rent for a villa EK standard in Jumeirah is 250.000 Dhs. A 15% increase on that price would be 37500Dhs, which is exactly... $10.000 US.
Again, just a little math from my side, didn't hear anything lately about evictions.

MR8 I agree with the rent price of Villas out of this world...

However in the case of an existing Villa Rental Agreement the Contract period and price with EK would have been agreed upon for example 3 years or 5 years what ever.

The point is it should only be raised by the max 15% and there is an existing process to follow if you are willing to put up the cash and have the Rent Committee review your case.

On the other hand it may suit EK to shift the guy, I would be asking to view the previous contract from the owner before throwing in the towel.

Still sounds like Bar Talk to me.

Borat the allowance for Capt is 10,590 AED a month or 127,000 a year does not include any allowance for the water or electricity or the 5% Municipality Tax. Company take the view that the rent allowance is reviewed annually and an adjustment is then passed on in June. Rental Allowance has never kept pace with the real cost of living in Dubai and no signs that it ever will.

If you have the option the deal being offerd now days to go to the Silicon Oasis is a good deal. You are going to get screwed paying rent. Housing has always been the wild card in the EK employment package and will continue to be a lottery for many however the deal being offered now days is a lot better than the one that was on the table when I joined.
