Ok for the millionth time on this forum, Eid, and Ramadan are not like Christian holidays where they fall on a designated day. Ramadan starts when the moon is first seen in Saudi by the moon observers, and Eid is when the next moon is first observed in Saudi Arabia. It will probably fall on either Sunday or Monday, but it depends on the moon.

Most of the money's going on Monday.

Eid Mubarak to those involved.

Eid will be when it will be... just like Ramadan started almost 4 weeks ago. Ramadan started at 3 different dates across the islamic world.
The islamic high council of every individual country will gather and base their decision on the ACTUAL sighting of the moon by themselves or by credible eye witnesses.
It should be around 24Oct +/- 1 day and again you may have the more western islamic countries declaring earlier than others further East. This will be only known very late in the evening (close to around 11pm) or first thing in the early monring news. Stay tuned to your local radio station. Stay:cool:

I believe they send a Mullah (qualified pilot) up in a F16 in Saudi to do the official spotting (no I am not joking)

No -16's in Saudi but I get your drift.

Eid is on Monday.

Regarding the process, it is declared on sighting of the new moon. Any individual can sight the new moon, they just need to go to the court with two witnesses and declare it. No sheikh in fighter jet.

IMO it would be much better if they went with astronomical projections than the naked eye.

Anyway, happy Eid.

It's official. Eid tomorrow according to WAM, today 22 October 2006.
ABU DHABI — Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow (Monday, October 23), the UAE moon-sighting committee announced yesterday.
“After examining the evidence, and also after consultations with the neighbouring countries, the committee has concluded that Sunday (October 22) will signify the 30th of the holy month of Ramadan. Therefore, Monday (23rd of October) will be the first day of the Shawwal crescent for the Hijri year 1427,” said a statement issued by the panel yesterday.
