Hajj 2006/7

Can anyone qualified please answer the following question...Is it acceptable and safe for Jewish Flight Deck members to operate into and stay in Jeddah? Please note, I am not asking if it is feasible to do this, as I know it is.

Passports are removed from arriving aircrew and returned upon departure, and they carry no evidence of faith of the holder. My question concerns safety. The Saudi Embassy in London refuse to provde any form of answer, and this is a serious question. (And purely practical, not a political one)

The customs declaration you sign upon arrival will ask your religion, other than that, I can't see anyone at the hotels, etc, ever knowing the difference.

I have always witten "Christian" in the section that asks for Religion. Never had a drama. Like all things to do do with KSA try not to stick out and you shouldn't have any problems.
:ok:

Thought you flew the Hajj last year???

As others have said, put Christian on the immigration card and you wont have any problems. In my case, I use "RC" and no one has ever asked what it means.

Man as long as you are not wearing the kippa you are OK, for that matter why not stick a ga3fa on (the traditional muslim white bit like the kippa) and pretend that you are muslim, they will welcome you with open arms like any son of Abraham, until they find out that is!:E

Hmmmmmmmmm

It's your last words that are so worrying. What if the authorities do find out? KSA has a different (ahem) legal system to those of Europe and North America.

Shouldn't you be more worried that they'll want to check out the "cut of your jib"?

T'was fairly common practise in N.Yemen (when that existed) for the police to do a "short arm" inspection if they doubted your declared religious heritage even during a passport check.

Woe be to him who sported the traditional Muzzie cut...and professed Christianity on his immigration paperwork.

edited to change whoa to woe... freudian slip!

You have nothing to be worried about. Nobody really cares what your religion is if you're not muslim. Just don't make an issue of it.

I hope you enjoy you're stay in Jeddah.
