Message from Emirates Crew Control

Had to LOVE the message on EVITA the last few days:

"This message is for all flight deck crew, unless you are calling sick or volunteering to work today (yeah right!) please do not call crew control as we have too many flights to cover :{ and are unable to help you with any further information....unless it is urgent. Thank you."

:ok: Oh boy! Things really are falling apart.

apaddyinuk 29th Jan 2006 18:55

Wait wait wait, slow down there....Your company email is called EVITA???? :}

Dont cry for me Emirates Scheduling!!!

Im sure Im not the first with the lame jokes but it does seem funny!!!

puff m'call 29th Jan 2006 19:03

EVITA

Emirates Voice Information Telephone Access, is used for all of our crewing changes and such like, not our company email.

apaddyinuk 29th Jan 2006 22:25

Well I apologise for any offence!!! :}

We personnally have a rostering system called Carmen...shes a very tempermental wee woman!

uplock 30th Jan 2006 02:13

Dont call us but we can still call you ......any time

Yeah....But It still did not stop Crew Control from phoning me at home on my day off after 10 pm pleading to go and fly one of 5 flights.....

I declined as I like my days off to recover and yes some of us do actually try and plan for activities ....

The rate for Overtime at 400 AED an Hr ($109 US) has not been adjusted for more than 7 years.....

Im not going to work any more on my days off.

Vorsicht 30th Jan 2006 02:14

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I interpret that message as "you guys aren't helping us any more, so we aren't going to help you either". Anyone else get the same impression.

If so, things are deteriorating arent they.

EVITA's message to pilots

Hi All,
Hadn't thought of it that way Vorsicht but it does ring true :suspect: Also, why is it necessary for ALL crew to hear that Scheduling are so short of pilots? I would have thought it would be possible to filter the message so that only pilots hear it or post it on the portal, etc. Call me a conspiracy theorist but is EVITA being used to disseminate a much more sinister message? I can see it now.... 'Profit share reduced due to cancelled flights'. At best this is a sign of desparation but I wonder

Yossarian 30th Jan 2006 03:41

Perhaps we should change our mesaages on our answering machines as well.

"This message is for all at Scheduling. Unless you are calling to give me a day off, please do not call as I have covered too many flights and am unable to help. Thank you."

SK_X 30th Jan 2006 07:16

Lol....!!

shaggin yoke 30th Jan 2006 07:22

Thats funny!!!:)

Banzai Eagle 30th Jan 2006 19:20

Sure the message is serious guys, but don't forget the scheduling guys are stuck in the middle trying to crew the flights and making an attempt to please you lot. It don't matter what airline you work for, the latter is almost impossible cos we know you lot are a hard bunch to please....Unless of course you get mega money and then life is rosy....

radnav 30th Jan 2006 21:08

Bollocks. No scheduling department operates to please the pilot group.

Further more scheduling may be caught in the middle, but the present ludicrous situation in EK is not the fault of the line pilots, so point the finger of blame elsewhere and stop expecting the line guys to keep having to drop everything and screw up their own lives (if you can call them that :} ) just to keep fixing up the ever present management stuff ups and crap planning.

SK_X 31st Jan 2006 10:42

radnav

Amen. Sign me up on your statement.

Take a look at how many are off sick today. Add that to those on XOs, can't be too many left to pick up the load.

Without actually counting, the names on the sick list appear to be predominately Airbus which tends to confirm the fatigue issue, even given that the Airbus is the larger fleet.

Curious about the first name on the XO list. How would he have done 900 hours in 12 months?
This assumes that XOs are only applied to those with high hours
Or is there a management pilot scam going on?

millerscourt 31st Jan 2006 15:28

I see that Emirates are advertising in Flight for an Airbus Fleet Manager so I guess all your problems will be soon solved!! Correct??

Warlock2000 31st Jan 2006 18:14

Problems solved....

:} :} :} :} Good one Millerscourt! ;)

Banzai Eagle 31st Jan 2006 19:50

Radnav
Mine does for one so there you go.
The finger can't be pointed at the Pilots as much as it cant be pointed at Crew Control, they are in the middle much like you

Roster Change 2nd Feb 2006 07:53

All,

Unfortunately crew control were in a situation of high workload due to operational disruption because of sickness of a Capt downroute and other associated problems. Crew control were unable at this time, to answer all the normal telephone calls. Nothing sinister, just pure workload on the day.

Please accept our apologise.

145qrh 2nd Feb 2006 14:39

thanks for the reply, don't buy it tho'. when things are busy , like you mention, normally the phones don't get answered...or at least that is the case virtually any time I phone..

Red Hackle 2nd Feb 2006 15:20

Also dont buy it. The message was not one of the most tactful I have ever heard. A bit of politeness especially under the present stressful circumstances would go a long way. I have always been pretty helpful when asked to help out but unfortunately there seem to be one or two controllers who make your hackles stand up the minute you answer the phone, and I emphasize not all of them are like that.

violate 2nd Feb 2006 20:59

Roster Change, it would be fair to say that we do sympathise with your plight. I can only imagine the crap and pressure you get from our illustrious leaders to fill vacant seats, caused by their crap planning and complete lack of awareness of what it takes to run a decent flight operation.
However as long as we all prop up a crumbling system they will not be held accountable for it.
So if I may be so bold to make a suggestion. Next time you are struggling to fill the seats, sit back and relax a bit more. If the flights don't get filled, then the system might get fixed.
Otherwise you are just another poor bu**er with your finger in the dyke trying to stop the flood.

MR8 3rd Feb 2006 10:09

Violate..

Completely agree with you.
Roster Change, you should ask yourself the question: ''Why do I get stressed if a flight does not get crewed? Why do I have to work harder in order to fix management f*ck ups which have been there for at least a year without any effort from management to improve the situation? Why would I go that extra mile for a management that tries to scr*w me as much as they can for their personal gain?''

For myself, I do pick up the phone when you guys call me, but I friendly tell you that I do not fly on my days off. I would love to be back in a situation where I would do everything for my company, where I would like to help out, but I can't see the point at this time.

The only thing that can get us out of this mess is a rough time for the company (read management). As long as everyone will go that extra mile and work on their days off, or goes into discretion as a normal operation, things will hardly change.

I would call for a 'work-to-rule'. Go exactly according to the book, for everything. Never work on days off, never go into discretion,.. Nothing bad, nothing management can punish you for, just throw all your FLEXIBILITY away. The company might suffer for a few weeks, but at least the message will reach the higher echelons. It's the only hope we have to get improvements.

Tone down the language please MR8 - we can't allow the use of obvious bad langauge as there are women, children and the faint-of-heart on these forums as well. It also loses you credibility to be blasting from the hip rather than orating from the orifice. Thanks. 4HP

longsleep 3rd Feb 2006 22:25

It's not only you guys

Following al the threads on EK and the scheduling problems at the moment, I'd like to mention that EK isn't the only airline where this occurs....

My employer in europe does have the same "opportunities" as crew scheduling of EK. opportunity (according management books) = a problem isn't a problem but a possibilty the change your own future.
After a social talk to one of the schedulers this morning I heard the following: "In total there are 32 positions (fo and cap) open for the next week, so please can you fly asap!?"
For the record I wasn't at home for a week or something, I was in my first day off.

And w're talking about a non expanding only reducing costs company here!

Conclussion:
As soon as figure people gain power, working people are slaves.
Unless..... We (the people) stick together and the rules!
United you stand, even if it's not allowed by law!
