Forced to Leave EK Company Accommodation

HI

I understand another round of notices has been provided to crew to pack their bags or pay the increase in rent. Can somebody provide more information on what is happening to EK pilots and new joiners re company provided accommodation.

Thanks in Advance.

Tell them to shove it where the sun don`t shine, bro! You should be able to pick where you want to live & the way want to. No freekin asehole has the right to make you do it!!!

Due to rents are increasing 20-30% p.a. the landlords dont want to rent out to EK for less than market value. EK will not pay these high rents, so when leases expire, residents are told to move or take the live out allowance and pay the difference from their own pocket. Eventually people will be moving into a hugh compound called Silicon Oasis. Hope that asnswers your question.

"Silicon Oasissss...."

Try it. It just rolls off the tongue. Trying to envisage just what those two words together will actually produce, does my western head in.

So you're saying Ek won't pay market rate for rent? Anything else you can think of they don't pay market rate on, while you're at it?

When will there be a world wide union of pilots then you will see the change in life style.

SecurID 27th Oct 2005 23:30

You know, I was only just thinking that the other day... So let's do it!!

The latest is apperently Saud Villas near Dubai Internet City.

Two of the residents were only moved there four months ago when the previous accomodation became too expensive. The compound has twelve on it.

The accomodation department have decided with the backing of management that the limit they will pay for company accomodation is 115,000 Dhs. If your rent is more than that you will be moved, given no or very limited choice to where you move to. Basically there are no villas in Dubai where the rent is less than 115000 Dhs. The big plan would appear tp be to move everybody to a pilot squat called Silicone Oasis. Silicone Oasis has no infrastructure and is 35 km out in the desert. So while your away if your wife does not feel like slitting her wrists now she will do when she has moved in.

The two residents in Saud Villas were lied to by the accomodation department and the management regarding the move to Saud Villas. The company has offered no compensation financially and has little or no intrest in the inconvenience or harm this does to families where children have there friends relocated away etc.

I had heard that one of the families previously had a move for health reasons with raw sewrage being pumped next to the villa. Of course no one gave a **** about the predicament they were in.

Now the accomodation department wont pay over 115,000 Dhs, but there are many three bedroom apartments on the Shk Zayed Road that the rent is now well over 110,000 Dhs occupied by only two or three cabin crew.

So if I am to understand whats happening a junior cabin crew member gets accomodation allowance of 25000 * 3 = 75000 or *2 =50,000.(ie two or three cabin crew per apartment)

So our loving accomodation department are quite willing to suppliment a cabin crew allowance with anywhere between 60,000 to 35,000 Dhs. Or upto 30,000 per member of cabin crew, but at the same time they are willing to shaft the entire pilot population and put them in some desert camp rather than pay an extra 15000. All this when the company is about to announce record profits again.

Of course they have not thought about the social problems of putting 600 pilots on top of one another in the desert only the last little bit of coin. And our spinless managemnet will just sit there continue to take the bonus, bury the head in the sand in the full knowlege that this will be another disaster.

It is because of this very issue my resignation will be getting added to the list of the many others this winter.

I think you will find the Saud saga was resolved a week ago. MF himself approved the additional money for the leases. There are rumours as to why, but at least it is positive for the families. Now, if only MF would also send an enormous rocket to the housing department, from NC down, and make them 'pay' for the stress they caused those families.

SecurID 28th Oct 2005 13:43

I have often said that the person who goes in to see MF and explains, in full, frank and unemotional manner, all that has happened within Flight Ops over the last five years, will either be fired or made the new head of Flight Ops. It's a fine line! But I honestly believe that those at the very top are unaware of what is happening on the line.

Yes I heard the same thing, however for one year only prior to the forced move to Silicone Oasis ! If anyone has facts to the contrary please add.

No offense Fly By String but I wish only half of the pilots on this board that said they are going to resign would. Don't get me wrong, I won't stop anyone from leaving or even blame anyone for leaving but talk is cheap (and so are pillots).
I believe Emirates only has had about 45 -50 pilots leave this year which is not a lot for an ex-pat airline. But the best way to vote here is with your feet so I wish you well and let's us know how you make out. Good luck!

I am not denying that the pilots leaving is unheard of in the history of Emirates but at the same time it is not that much. I will also admitt that mangement could learn a thing or two from Southwest but they don't have two so they will probably won't.
I don't think that Emirates has cancelled leave just asked the pilots to postpone their leave which I guess is a difference. intersting times ahead.

Along these lines, there is quite an interesting article in todays 7 DAYS magazine ( 1 Nov. ) entitled " The B & B Drain. by James Piecowye. I think he paints the "big Picture" here in the U.A.E.

If only the people in charge would take heed.
