First Kuwaiti woman gets pilot license

KUWAIT CITY, July 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Kuwaiti girl Munirah Mohammad Buruki finally got her private flying license to become Kuwait's first female pilot, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported Monday.

Buruki was quoted by KUNA as saying that it was her childhood dream come true and that she trained on single engine and other planes before she graduated first of her class in the Jordanian Royal Academy at the age of 19.

She said she graduated five months earlier than those in her class and would now join commercial aviation courses to become a commercial aviation pilot.

She added this is another victory and testimony that Kuwaiti women are just as able as their male peers.

According to her instructor Captain Nawwaf Qiblani, Buruki showed exemplary commitment during training.

With over 35 years of experience, the captain said Buruki was the best he saw at the academy, who achieved her goal after only 65 hours of training. He noted she also showed the characteristics and responsibility required in a captain. Enditem
