Power out Dubai

Hey guys,

Just got my electricity back.. apparently the whole of Dubai has had a power cut this morning. Anyone knows how this has affected EK operations and the airport in general??

Isn't it odd how all the radio stations went to a music only format?? The one resource available to keep the masses informed. What a mentality.

I'm just amazed how a glitch in one substation can wipe out power from Jebel Ali to Sharjah. Like to know who designed that system. You pay peanuts.......

BB... just have a look at the wiring in your villa/appartment.. says it all...
Dubai needs some high quality workforce if it wants to survive in the long end.. not some cheap slaves who try their best, but have no education or knowledge about what they are doing..

"the difference between the first world and the third is Dubai"

- you get payed right down the middle.
- cost of living is right up the first.
- quality of most things reflect the third, as most of the workforce comes from there.
- the difference goes into the pockets of local planning heroes

at least the sun is still out of their reach, whereas they have already f....d up the beaches.

turtleneck,.........love your post!!!!
So true...................!

Last time I remember this happening was 98. Must admit the bit of light boxing a saw between a taxi driver and some other patriot on the beach road was very amusing.

And petrol queues.... just like being back in Zim, made me feel rite at home!

Same problems in Turkey.
Only they dont import their labor, they grow their own.

Gulf News 10th Jun 2005 09:22

Isnt it funny how in this part of the world the first line of defence is lie or deny. Quote from todays Gulf News alongside pictures of chaos in the terminal yesterday.

"Mohammad Ahli, Director of Operations Room at the department, said: “We had no major disruptions. Some areas such as baggage handling and check-in formalities were switched to manual sorting.”
He, however, said that no flights were delayed or cancelled. He said the airport has its own generators that were switched on from 10.20am until 12.30pm, when power supply was restored."

The 7days newspaper has the same quote alongside a picture of the departures board showing several EK flights either cancelled or delayed. I seem to remember the same denial after the tragic accident on the terminal construction site late last year. Surely if the Dubai authorities want to be taken seriously as a global economy they have to resist the temptation to treat people like fools.

You pay peanuts.......
You get EK staff??

Be nice people, I know this is a rumour network, but I suspect none of us have any real idea what happened and if it would not happen the same way in many "first world" countries!

I seem to recall several power outages in the UK, trains that can't run because of leaves on the track........need i go on?

Very true DK,
These flyers from the "1st world" countries quickly forget and are quick to nit pick.
When it happens in their back yard there's never anything mentioned.

How did you servive the heat there without A/C? i have heard that it could reach 50 degrees, is that true?

Basically you don't need an oven in the summer, right?

:p :O :ok:
