Pets in Dubai

I have almost the holy grail of hours for Emirates but have one magic question?
What is the company/national policy with regard to bringing pets ( a dog ) with you as my wife and daughter are refusing to go anywhere without said pet?
Any help would be appreciated!

pas de problem!! It will mainly depend on the landlord of the villa you end up in. We have dog and cat here.

Recent announcement in the press here indicates UAE to become member of the UK's "Pet Passport" scheme also.

We brought a cat to Dubai...

...and she's lying here next to me happily. =^..^=

Here is the deal: You have to have a permit from Dubai with you when you enter the UAE with your animal.

We got Dubai Kennels & Cattery (http://dkc.ae/) to arrange the permit for us.

You need two documents in order to get the permit. If I remember correctly, they are firstly, a rabies certificate more than 2 weeks old (but maybe within 30 days??) including the sticker from the vaccination which shows the manufacturer of the vaccine and the batch number, and secondly, a health certificate from the vet that is under 30 days old.

You should be able to fax these documents to DKC and when they have arranged the permit, they'll fax it to you so you can carry it in through customs with your pet and avoid a quarantine situation.

DKC was really good to us, because we arranged everything at the last minute, and I paid Marhaba (the meet-and-greet service) at DXB to meet him coming in with the kitty and hand him the permit before he passed through customs.

The prices for these services were all reasonable, and of course it was worth it not to leave the kitty behind.

Lots of luck to you and your family if you make the big move!!

The selection process for pets (dogs) is spread over three days.

Day one is a show around all the pet facilities and an over view of life as a pet in Dubai.

Day two is a series of tests like retrieving bones licking your own ballocks and sniffing assholes. There are some group exercises such as pulling sleds, ambushing cats. And dealing with korean restauranters (KRM)

Day three is the simulator where you will have to retrieve a newspaper off the same korean restaurant owner , emergency tree wetting drills and a paws up approach and SINGLE PAW BARKING.

Its important to be youself and enjoy the process, remember they are looking for the total pet package and how youll fit in the kennels.EG would i like to spend all day in an airconditioned flat sniffing his ass. If you are not sucessful its not a personnal reflection on your dogginess, just that your bark wasnt right.

There are different selection criteria for DEC (direct entry cats), and definately no PIGS.

Doggy t/cs have taken a tumble with smaller bones, no credit for car chasing , (not covered under dftl) the kennels are allocated according to your master, and watch out for local dogs, rabid bunch on the roads.

good luck

I think the term " It's a dog's life" originated from having to live in places like Dubai:{

dicksynormous, your contribution had me rolling on the floor, well done and thanks for the laugh.
BTW why do dogs lick their balls?
Because they can!
