Company Accomodation "GF"

Hi

I have a good freind of mine who will be joining

GF within the next little while in Bahrain, and he is

interested to find out about the company's accomodation

(what's it like!) he is going there single and the company

has already promised him a furnished flat, he is a westener.

Any feedback from the lads in Bahrain would be highly

appreciative.

Cheers

Hi,
Is your friend Cabin crew or a Pilot? :O

Sabastienl 22nd Nov 2003 07:20

Hi NBN

He is a pilot! I am surprised you asked....? Why is there different

accom. for different trades (Pilots,maint.,Flt. Att.) and the rest of

the adminstrative staff. I know the accom. may vary for differnt

X-pats. depending on what country they come from (Western/

Asian), but I didn't know it also varies for different trades as well!

Please informe me if it exist, and if there are any websites I can

pass on to my freind to see how they look like, if possible!

Regards

fatbus 22nd Nov 2003 15:40

at EK the accomodation is different for everyone: Capt - villa, FO not married apartment, married - villa. Cabin Crew- apartment.

If you go out on your own the amounts differ depending on your rank Capt 95k , Fo 85k Cabin crew ? 35 -40K

Joe Monsoon 22nd Nov 2003 23:00

It all depends on where you're from.
i.e. Aussie or ex-BMI
If you are unlucky enough to have a Bahraini passport better forget about accomodation

fatbus, Joe Monsoon

Thanks mates.....fatbus I appreciate your info. on EK, do you

figure GF will be in the same ball park? As I mentioned before

he will be going solo! so I guess he will be getting a furnished

flat! O he will be an F/O!

Joe Monsoon

Actually he is an X-Canada 3000, just finished contracting in Asia,

so where does that put him? He holds dual citizenships I believe

British/Canadian.....I am not sure though! But I would think he

would have the Canadian citizenship if he was working for

Canada 3000!

Look forward to your feedback.

Cheers
;)

Stop dreaming

There are absolutely no accomodation provided to GF/GT pilots at all. Furnished or unfurnished, flat or villa, nothing. The only place you can see provided accomodation is in your job offer and in your contract. After that you dont hear anything about it at all. You stay at the hotel or take the housing allowance and rent/buy your own.

I rent a 2 bed-room flat, 13 floor, crapy view, smelly corridor, extremely smelly (garbage juice) first come first served dusty parking lot, 5 meter from a mosque (wake up garanteed every sunrise unless your are pissed drunk) for 43 000Dhs, AC included.

Sabastienl 25th Nov 2003 08:39

Yo767

Are you currently employed by GF.....? How accurate is your

info. because I have to pass on this info.. My budy, said it is

indicated in the contract offer......! you sign is not what you will

be getting once you get to Bahrain?

Please let me know! I will qoute what my freind said to me

in regards to what was offered to him for Housing:

"The Company will provide the Employee with free
accommodation furnished to the Company's hard furnishing
standards. This means that the Employee will have to provide
for himself/herself crockery, cutlery, linen and kitchen utensils.
Alternatively the Employee may opt for Housing Allowance in
lieu of Company accommodation."

By the way I don't know the $$$$$ for accommodation if he
would to opt for housing allowance in lieu of Company
accommodation, but I am sure he will be going with the company
accommodation based on what they told him and what he signed
for in his contract.

Kindly share the info. so I can pass it on.

Accomodation

Every pilot contract at GF states the same my friend. The only accomodation provided by GF/GT for flight deck crew is the one you have in your dreams between the time you accept the job offer and the time you get here.

lbha320 26th Nov 2003 09:41

Will be also joining Gulf Air this week. Accomodation provided in hotel for first few weeks, afterwards on my own option, providing the housing allowance.
I was told during the interview that the company accomodation was not available, so I should look for one. Very Clearly said. No cheating at all!!!

Sabastienl 26th Nov 2003 16:07

Ibha320

Well said!....I guess in your case they are not offering you

accommodation but at the same time they are being clear

straight forward, no B.S.! In the case of my freind they are

offering him accommodation, O well different strokes for different

folks!

Yo767

I really don't how to reply to you, do you have something

against your current employer/past "GF",it seems to me

there is a little bit of bitterness about the company coming

from your end! The whole idea of me posting this up is to

get some straight info. so I can pass it on to my freind,

that's all. Could you had been the only canidate offered

something initially and then they turned their backs on you!?

I don't know I am just curious!

Bagshaw Crusher

Let me begin by happily stating "last time I checked I am

a Man, but I don't know about you though!".

Incase you don't know yet, this forum is based on anonymous

postings placed by proffesionals in the aviation industry and

others who frequently visit and contribute their 2 cents worth

of thoughts that make this whole website an intersting one,so

people can learn, obtain info. and share info. about anything in

the industry.

.....Nobody asked any professional pilot to go out on a limb and

put his neck on the line to answer my post, abslutely not!

And I don't think any professional pilot in the right frame of mind

would ever do that as well, weather he/she works for GF or

for the matter fact any other airline. Maybe you haven't been

frequently visiting this forum since you no longer work for GF

as you stated, but pilots + cabin crews have placed various

postings stating in details their openions and disappointments

about their airlines and how they have been mistreated in

general and how they would like to see things change for the

better under the umbrella of being "Anonymous".

....On the other hand you have to realize since I have

not heard, nor had a single negative reply regarding the

Accom. situation at GF up to that time,I had to take the single

negative reply as a personal thing between that person and

the airline when it came to Accom. only, common sense. If there

are others that like to share their stories and how they were

jerked around by GF housing dept.,feel free to state your

expeirence, and once again under the "umbrella of being

Anonymous".

Now tell me...... is Bagshaw your first name and Crusher

your last name? Just so I can see where you rank on your

company seniority list! hummmm....Interesting last name!

Regards :ok:

Re: Sebastian

Sebastian, dont ever say again that i have something against my company! Where the f%&@ do you get that from. I love my job. You ask a question about accomodation and i answered you clearly. The only thank i had was being treated as a liar and someone who talks against his own company. You wont get anymore info from me. I will have a good chat with your EX C3 Canadian/British, back from Asia "friend" when he shows up in AUH. World is smaller than you think. Your friend is not anonymous anymore on that forum. You should watch your big mouth before you cause some trouble to "him".

By the way, what's wrong with your friend? He is not able to use a computer to ask the question himself? Seems to me like a very strange story. A boy who seems concerned about his friend accomodation...

Bagshaw Crusher 27th Nov 2003 21:32

SAb

I don't understand your post but will just conclude with a few pointers.

Accomadation is a big problem at Gulf Air. Easily solved if you contribute with your own wage.

Now, you are living in the Middle East and not saving at all to get ahead financially.

What is the point of living in the MidEast if you are maintaining a basic life style only?

The MidEast is a sacrifice. You should be rewarded.

Bad airlines offer terrible conditions to F/O's but allude to quick promotion. They don't deliver on the quick promotion as it is cheaper to employ direct entry captains. Managers get their bonuses but you wake up having professionally wasted your time in the Middle East.

Think carefully!!!!!!!!!

Sabastienl 28th Nov 2003 02:57

Yo767

First and foremost you ought to know how to read and

understand what you are reading before you start becoming

unpolite to others on this forum when others meant no harm

to you at the first place. "Don't go around shooting at people

with an empty gun, otherwise you will be called a blank shooter"!

what I stated on my last posting to you and I qoute:

"there is a little bit of bitterness about the company coming

from your end" it is quite obvious to whoever reads your post

due to the fact you have been jerked around for housing, and I

don't blame you. Nobody ever stated anything about you not

loving your job,I really don't know where you get that from!... You

have to realize nobody up to my last reply to you had anything

similar to what you mentioned posted,so your case is a unique

one from my point of view. At the same time there is another

pilot who will also be joining GF and they told him straight up

that he would have to find his Accom..,but now others have

replied with similar stories to yours and now I can see a trend

with people getting jerked around with the housing dept.....

Yo....nobody accused you of being a liar nor of a someone who

talks against his own company, kindly "look into what I wrote

above". Your replies are well taken now,no hard feelings!

By the way coming from proffessional pilot like yourself it is

unprofessional to tell me "you will have a good chat with my

freind upon arrival in AUH"!....if you have somthing against me for

what I had posted earlier and for you not understanding,

then deal with me not with my freind,he's got nothing to do with

it. You are quite right the world is a small place, and aviation is

small industry. I am sure you will like my freind when you get to

meet him,you might even end up knowing him if you had worked

for C3000 or the other European charter companies.

Just to conclude.....I hope I got my point across clear,if

there is anything that you would like to drop me a line or two

about weather in private or as a post I would be happy to

hear from you.

Regards

Bagshaw Crusher

Too bad you didn't understand my post, although I see your

point and I hear you loud and clear regarding Accom. and other

issues as you have indicated. It sure is something to think about

if a person is venturing to that part of the world. Mind you

Bahrain is not so bad comparing to the other Gulf States, and

from what I hear it is cheaper overall than Dubai or Abu Dhabi

"not sure about the spelling". By the way I am hearing

that you get put up in hotel upon arrival, how long would that

last? Appreciate all the info. and I will pass it on.

Regards ;)
