You will have to buy curtains/blinds and kitchen appliances. You will need to spend on rugs, decorating and furniture. If you don't have the cash you will find yourself in debt for at least as long as you owe EK for the bond.
Depending on whether you go as a single person or with a family the cost of setting up the place shouldn't be higher than $10K for the basics (Fridge, stove, washing machine, couch, bed and a bit of decoration) and 25000aed is the furniture allowance that you can use to buy your own furniture and appliances now. It's nice to have a car, of course, but there's absolutely no need to get a nice one right away. A cheap second hand car should do for the first year and those are very easy to find in Dubai. Of course taxis are not as cheap as they used to be but they're still a lot cheaper than in any main European city. A taxi from Meydan Heights to Jumeirah shouldn't be more than $20 and that's about as far as you'll need to drive on a casual day out.

The furniture allowance (25000aed), some cash and a just maybe a small loan for a second hand car or to top up the furniture allowance should be enough to set anyone up nicely for the first few months. Just Ikea the hell out of it and be patient in turning the villa into a home. Just get the basics and accept that it will not be as nice as your place back home for a while. Then you can upgrade your living month by month on your salary alone. I think you can get rid of this debt in about 6 months if you're responsible without much difficulty.

im not an EK pilot but would like to know if things genuinely improved or is that all just nonsense and it’s just as toxic as before or did EK realize they had a real problem and have made concerted efforts to right the ship so to speak in terms of making it a more pleasant place to work.

Does anybody else know EK pilots currently employed there who can confirm this?
I have enjoyed most of my 2 decades at EK before leaving back to Europe flying LCC.

Do not think that the grass is always greener on the other side; I decided to quit EK when I estimated that I could call it a day with respect to my UAE experience. I got a lot of it and gave back the same amount. Win-Win.
In Europe LCC You might be based home or close enough, but I can’t think of any major differences with respect to EK in terms of Management/HR relations. Everything will depend on how you adapt to it. That goes from EK to you name it. I know people who ran away from EK to go fly LCC “finally home” and after a few months of “sleeping in the same bed every night” I.e. waking up at 3 am and doing 11 hours duty for 6 days in a row they were like “yes I think that’s tiring too…”. Ended up going to Qatar…

Emirates does not have a bond. A bond would require the pilot to front a large sum of money and place it on deposit which is an entirely different thing.

I may have said this before.

Technically, (very hair splittingly technically) you are correct but if you leave within the 'bond' period of effectivity you owe Emirates $. And it can be quite a sum if you leave in the first year. And Emirates will ensure that it gets its money.

The recruiters themselves are actively calling it a "bond" at the roadshows

That's not what a bond is. Never anywhere has being bonded involved having to deposit any amount of money upfront. It's actually the opposite. When an airline doesn't bond you and requires you to pay for the required training that's when they don't bond you.

had no issues, except my age is above fifty. That make me for sure on of those not deserving to get a job back - xulu seems to be ok for you- you just described exactly that Toxic environment Ek represents!

it shows what kind of personality you have if age is a reason for you to exclude someone from having a job - well done

for the original poster here - this is exactly EK at its best!
Dude, you are literally on here on every single post about EK being a sour grape and even ****ting on people who have ambitions to apply. Why? Because you weren't called back after COVID? The majority of people were called back and if you weren't one of them its time to take a look in the mirror. What's funny is that everyone who calls you out on your behavior is immediately branded as the problem. Nobody one here is shocked at why you weren't called back based on your behavior on this forum.

Any large long haul career airline shouldn’t need a “bond”….Funny when I joined it was a $36k/3 yr bond for new joiners, while I was there I think they increased it to 42k because of all the “toxicity” with everyone escaping…which caused an even greater exodus. Of course they always double down on stupid at EK so that’s when the additional “bond” for promotion was introduced. Indentured servitude!

eead my post carefully again - you will realize it refers to one person only - not to everyone. I have an option about that place and I say it.
currently we are living in a time where people with a different opinion are always get hammered, because they don’t speak to your favor. You like it there, good.
You have no ******* clue why people got kicked out or have been called back. As well as nobody else here knows anywhere near the truth, typical EK - I am the best and I am better than any one else in the market and nobody else than me deserves it better than me to be there.
who says I ever wanted back ?
the dessert sucks be all means, and you just lined up to show how EK toxicity surfaced - back stabbing and how people get sucked into the fog and dust of a superficial society who believes to be better.

Ignore TogaTaxi, Fly the biglady,

She only joined after the sackings in 2020 so she really has no idea about the endemic toxicity that descended on EK in the years just prior to 2020.

The basic survival strategy has unconciously begun. Still in the first phase. Denial. Unfortunately phase two will come sooner than later. Move out of MS/MH asap to postpone this phase shift. Halas.
