I know you said you want to scratch the Long haul itch, but have you considered FZ as an option as well? I think FZ has treated its employees way better than EK over the last year, and you will have a lot more freedom of choice (as of now) where to live and how to spend you housing allowances etc. Provident fund isnt as good but overall salary isnt too much different I think if you take allowances etc in to account. FZ still has 200 Max's on order so recruiting will start again sooner than EK I think (year end maybe?) once Boeing starts telling FZ to come collect the aircraft sitting in Seattle.

I also personally had an itch to fly long haul, but after seeing/hearing about what goes on at EK, that desire to go there dissapeared very quickly and I am quite happy where I am at now..

The one attached to the tennis stadium, not owned, just part of the management team, I wish he owned it! 😀

The good news then is that if you do get a job with EK you can finish the sim and nip across the road to drown your sorrows, which you wouldn’t be able to do if you follow Transport Jock’s suggestion and apply to Fz 🙂

mit not only a vent - the amount of bs I have seen coming from trainers and what happened to close colleges is mind blowing - this was not my first company but by far the worst in terms of training
a typical larger LCC does by far more flights a day or week than EK does and having not more or less troubles during there operation than EK does. When we talk about resilience than a LCC has the much bigger problem than a company like EK due to the fact that the every repeating sectors lead to it

Perhaps it might be worth your while to consider an old saying:

"You should wish for what you have, not have what you wish for"

Good luck.
