They have many on LWOP so why would they need to hire for the 380? Surely they are pretty much plug & play?

nervous_novice

Unfortunately we have ALL gone from hero to zero, no matter the fleet.

UAE stays on the UKs red list, India closed, Australia closed, South Africa closed, EU loads are pathetic...Where are we going to get pax from mate? The going cargo rates are 3-5 times lower compared to summer last year. Nothing is safe in the current environment, even the airline itself...And the company is dumping quite a few 777s hoping to get more A380s back in the air...This place defies logic...

Many of us on the 777 felt safe this time last year, that all changed with an email. Don’t count your chickens......

I hope you realize that as long as those A380s will be parked in DWC EK will be losing money regardless if you fly 10 or 100 hrs per month....Unless they restructure the company and get rid of them entirely. Mind you, restructuring never comes with the same Ts and Cs, you will still be flying 90+ hrs for less money and perks...In one of the recent articles our great leader has mentioned that the company has got sufficient liquidity reserves to fund the daily ops for another 6-8 months. Do you think that the government will keep bailing them out once every 6 months? Be careful with your statements mate, the only thing you can be sure of at the moment is that nothing is guaranteed...

NN, not only do I think you are SCUM but obviously you are extremely stupid as well and have no live, evident by the amount of you manage to post here.
you think you have a safe job flying the 777 at EK, you are delusional. This company does not care about you. The moment they don’t need you any more, you’re gone, it will happen to you as well, trust me.
with pretty much all the markets closed the situation is dire at EK, there is simply no money coming in, those freight rates cover no way near the expenses incurring at the moment.
the loss for this financial year will be enormous.
the commercial loans and state bailouts they received are not free money but interest bearing loans that cripple any future expansion planned.
120 380s parked, he majority leased, finance costs, maintenance cost to keep them in a semi flight ready condition.
THE SITUATION IS DIRE—— and you moron think you have a save job. Live in denial

Nobody cares about CC mate. They don’t have the same investments made here as pilots. Pilots have uprooted their entire families CC have not. Pilots need to keep their license and Medicals current, CC do not.
CC are easily replaced. It’s not a skilled job.

I agree that cc have a lot invested as well in there careers/job depending at the stage they are at and simply disregarding them is crass. However the selection process that step 1 requires you to hold an ATPL would rule out 99.9% of CC. Out of interest Nervous Novice how many years ago did you join?

Imagine having to fly 90+ hour months with Nervous Novice and Nimrod, Jesus Christ I think I'd prefer LWOP... 😭

You two are an embarrassment.

I think you’ll find that this whole thread is an embarrassment from start to finish.

Nicely said making little of the guys on LWOP.
I guess that you are not on LWOP?

Don’t know why you are getting so upset, I’m only saying what everyone here already knows.

Setting all the diatribe aside concerning who is on what aircraft or what cc are thinking etc, there is a small notice today on the local newspapers that should make everyone shudder and be alert to what is coming. This is a shift of paradigm and it is not good news .....

From Gulf News 8.5.21:

Emirates Airlines will be focusing on conserving cash and boosting profitability rather than chase market share, a top official at the Dubai airline said.

“We don’t introduce massive capacity to gain market share and run empty flights - that’s not how we run our business”.

More importantly, STC is now a local. You seriously can’t make this up.

As a former EK pilot (left 5 years ago) can I please just suggest you all take a step back and read this thread as if it were a bunch of medical professionals talking rather than pilots? It's embarrassing. We're all supposed to be on the same side in this thing. The situation is slowly improving and there is cause for optimism, but the last thing that we need as a professional community is for the general public to see a bunch of immature comments from the guys and girls who they trust their lives with.

Seriously, just read through all the Emirates threads as if it were a brain surgeons message board, then think how you'd feel if you were about to go in for brain surgery. Scary. It's about time to move on from this destructive nonsense. Maybe it's the effect of living in a cut-throat society out in Dubai, it can really mess with your head. A lesson to others.

Apologies for the intervention. Hope things improve for us all soon.

Aren’t they downsizing the 777 fleet
They were, but now they're not. Leases on 15 airframes were set to expire but EK managed to negotiate new favourable lease terms. 2 777F leases weren't renewed as I believe we were out bid (by Lufthansa Cargo?). However I've heard direct from Fleet they're negotiating with Boeing for the purchase of a replacement pair of freighters as we speak.

How accurate is this? The company updates still mention that these aircraft will be departing the fleet in the next 18 month...Has the common sense finally prevailed? Surely these aircraft will be needed to match a very weak demand in the foreseeable future...Will our great leader finally stop talking rubbish about the supremacy of the A380 to every media outlet in the world?

They have enough local talents joining to cover for a few expats that have left...I think the mass resignation rumour is а bit exaggerated. Its mostly US citizens leaving and they were not too many left before the pandemic...
