Yep; they haven't heard that the Virus keeps mutating and we're all going to need annual jabs to stop us from dying.

Surely not all of them.

There are quite some frames hitting the 15 year mark (standard leasing contract duration) in 2022 and 2023. An early retirement of those plus aging owned frames could reduce the fleet to around 80 whales by the time demand recovers.

That would certainly have an impact on potential recalls, hence my question.

Anyone knows how many frames they actually have pilots for atm?

aussiefarmer, mate if you are like me (redundant) and you are out, that eventually means out, if that rumoured retirement is true. The only people that might get a chance are the unpaid leavers and that is debatable considering the situation. EK when it comes to money are pretty good so they wouldn’t spend a fortune kicking us out then rehiring us back only a few months down the line with a potential loss of 20-25% of us. Its done, the only people with secured jobs right now are the 777 skippers ‘ and only the skippers and their wifes who adore living in MS and travel first class on someone else expense and mock all of us in social media that we didn’t plan as well and spend our lives and fortunes on a dead fleet and a car/house/bicycle/coffee machine/ holiday/ special mug / toilet paper, that we didn’t deserve.

First Ek isn’t good on money - they have waste loads of it theou habibi attitude and fixed every mistake by pouring money to a) cover it and b) to make it forgotten
since they had to manage the money they where shooting on every on and everybody
and I wouldn’t be to sure about being a 777 skipper - what’s about the demand is growing slow on some routes just enough to switch a 777 to 380 and some 777 are going for a longer parking - don’t you think they gone extinct some 777 skippers than as well
I strongly believe there is lots of room for sleepless night even for a 777 guy as the company is the best in communication

Probably see 777 retirements as well as pilots terminated and LWOP( read ,selected culling) when trunk routes slowly switch to 380 and recall of LWOP pilots. Recovery, according to IATA could be 5 years .

Long term voyeur of this forum here. I had to register because I believe this post deserves a reply. As do quite a lot of other posts. I would like to ask, that if at all possible, could some of you please have a cup of coffee and open your eyes to what’s going on around us. This forum is like watching spoilt, clueless children squabbling. nervous_novice , have a bit of respect mate. You should be so lucky to find any kind of flying job. I myself am resigned to the fact the I may never fly again. To be honest, that is quite a painful thought. I understand that we are all upset about the current situation, but it seems that we have lost all respect for each other. Well done lads, quite a group we turned out to be. Shameful.

The highly over optimistic statement from AAR needs to be cause
1) they may fly 100 destination not long not the frequency
2) 60% of the destinations are cargo flights
3) he needs to move parked airplanes
4) the need to keep the faith in the EXPO up
5) he needs Pax going through DXB which is not gonna happy very fast

With the news coming out from major outlets throughout the world regarding the behaviour of a certain, highly senior (read plate no. 1) individual in Dubai, the damage done to the already damaged economy may result in the airline not being needed at all.

I think the pigeons have definitely come home to roost.

These sorts of news come and go - last year made headlines with the ex escaping and still in UK courts etc etc. I doubt that is a primary reason that will result in the downfall of an airline.

Agree- nobody who considers Dubai as place for the perfect vacation or is using the airline for his transit to wherever gives a about the royals and their family affairs - this won’t affect the airlines business or image

No need for popcorn - it’s not politics - a simple tourist does not even pay attention to these things - and for a UN resolution there is a bit more needed

One of the major problems of becoming an ex-patriate pilot in an environment such as Dubai automatically ensures that you care little for nothing else but one’s own lifestyle and bank balance.

i’m not naive and I know that the average travelling public are not going to give a damn about the political environment and human rights abuses and corruption that happens in the Gulf states. My comment regarding the fact that the Emirate of Dubai might not need its own airline soon was a little bit tongue in cheek. It was , however, a direct quote from one of the news sources.

I would have far more respect towards the previous posters if they had acknowledged that issues exist and discuss them in an open manner, rather than becoming part of the problem itself.

How many long time as have witnessed abuses against women in the Gulf states? Ranging from minor to extremely major? Maybe this needs a new thread all of its own, but I know that it would get shut down very quickly.

If Dubai will not need its own airline then the Qr airways CEO will throw a party every day. Do you think that Dubai Leaders are going to allow that?
Hope they will not as what Qr has done to their crews is a shame.
