And they are even offering jobs back? I don’t think so, not yet anyway so it’s interesting wher you get pay scales from?

Of course you can expect to be bottom of pay scale and likely seniority. A 5-10% basic cut and sign a 5 year $50k bond.

The majority will come racing back to cure boredom, finances or marriages.

Although I must admit, I’m thoroughly dreading the rosters. The longer ppl are out, the more entrenched at home or in new careers they become.

While I suspect most will still rejoin if asked, I also expect them to keep one foot out the door or leave families at home; waiting until a good commuting/part-time job appears.

I maintain there will be a squeeze on Captains, who are far more likely to not return due age, wealth, health, family, or career opportunities,

Seniority? What seniority? They demonstrated that that is not worth the ink it is printed with. Seniority would have been used to decide on redundancy, the only thing it was good for was a seat on the aircraft on holiday.

Direct passenger flights from UAE to U.K. now banned from Friday. UAE added to “Red Zone” list!

The likely beneficiary in the short-term will be QR, for transit traffic. And perhaps Ethiopian too. Longer run, who knows?

There will always be support for long-haul traffic, either through hubs or point-to-point. But it may take some time to re-develop.

Tons of it, if you are willing to look beyond today.

Short term tightening of restrictions whilst vaccines are rolled out is a positive on long-term prospects. I hope the whole world goes into a unified lockdown, and all borders closed, because that will ultimately bring a quicker recovery.

But some characters would be straight on here bizarrely boasting "i told you so", because they are unable to extrapolate beyond todays headline.

The interruption to UK flights is a massive blow to the company. While we have all lost count of the number of countries that have closed and reopened, the suspension of these flights will have a greater impact. A substantial chunk of the 380 operation has now ground to the halt, which will elevate levels of stress and uncertainty for those on forced unpaid leave. Especially for those that don't have the means to survive for the full 12 month period and are hoping for an earlier recall.

With regards to any good news that we see at the moment, it seems to be mainly related to vaccine development and whilst it makes uplifting reading, it will probably take many months for the effects to filter down to us.

I'm sure you do. My point is people shouldn't be focussed on the next few months, but next year, and the recruitment that precedes it. The closing of borders now will make the vaccine rollout more effective and bring the timeline for industry recovery forward. It's not something that validates doomsday scenarios.

It must indeed be a very stressful time for them in that big house, bills paid, kids in private school, free healthcare, vaccine, staff travel and first in line to get back flying. With so many people grounded, it's become difficult to find a space to lounge at the pool during winter.

What else could they possibly do with all that time on their hands? Maybe put all their energy into organising a salary diversion from 777 drivers? That will help pay off the Porsche in a more meaningful way than selling it ever could.

I heard one guy recently had to let his maid go when they cancelled the LHR flights, it was just too uncertain whether he'd be back in March or June.
He actually has to do his own laundry now. Can you believe it??

Another downgraded his 800 mb/s Du internet to a 200mb/s one. Brutal. It's a bloodbath out there in Meydan.

"FFS xulu....grow up"

Really?

I'm not sure it's him that needs maturing.

Most of the EK tossers on this forum keep a human being caged in a closet-sized room adjacent to their free villa. That human is invariably female, a mother, seperated for sometimes years at a time from her children. She will change Sir-family's diapers, clean Sir's toilets, and make sure Sir's shirts are clean and pressed for his next dangerous and stessful trip to CDG. For this, "Sir" will, on a monthly basis (unless he "forgets"), grudgingly fling in her direction the monetary equivalent of a single Sunday brunch.

"Sir" has it hard. "Sir" has lost his income. But most obviously of all, "Sir" has lost his sense of moral proportion.

Before some of you go on posting your sarcastic comments about those of us struggling to pay bills and support our families, maybe stop and think about how much the current situation IS NOT a joke to us? Contrary to whatever conspiracy theory filled world you live in, none of us are "sitting by the pool with all of our bills paid, a Porsche in the garage", and not a worry in the world. Really Xulu?? Not that I need to explain myself to you, but I actually did sell my CHEVROLET when I was put on unpaid leave and came back to my home country to pack boxes in a warehouse 60 hours a week to make ends meet. I don't say that asking for sympathy from anyone, but get a grip! I know you think you typed that post out and were being SO witty and cute, but I for one find it extremely offensive and sad, especially coming from a "fellow colleague". I happen to be one of the unlucky pilots who was assigned Airbus when I joined EK some 10 years ago, and I have put ZERO energy into nor have ever even thought about the idea of a "salary diversion" from anyone currently on active roster. Get over yourself...this whole 777 vs 380 pilots rivalry some of you guys entertain is the epitome of teenage girl behavior. We were all assigned an aircraft based on whatever the company criteria/needs were at our date of joining, its that simple. And Dropp...you have the audacity to infer that employing a maid in Dubai is somehow comparable to owning a slave and makes a person immoral and "in need of maturing"? I suppose your implication here is that pilots on unpaid leave somehow deserve all of their suffering because they are so immoral and immature? I actually had to read both of these posts twice in disbelief that someone actually had the nerve to post such GARBAGE. How insensitive, cruel, and just plain idiotic can "professional pilots" be to each other? Thank you both for making what is one of the most difficult periods of many of our lives so much more pleasant. I think it's time this forum removes the initial "P" from its title...

Guys we are ALL in the , its just the depth that varies.

The guys out of work, with little hope of a job again soon or otherwise or the guys on unpaid leave stuck in the UAE not knowing if they will have a job to go back to, or if they have a home next year.

Be kind, WE all are stressed and worried. Now isn't the time for 777 vs 380 or such petty squabbles, WE are not the enemy.

Wowzers, still missing the point?

I don’t want to see any UPL complain about the deal they’re on, and come crying to this forum for sympathy.

Whether compared to the majority of Airbus pilots, or the average Dubai resident - you have amazing luck in life.

I hate to break it to you, but you don’t deserve a radically different lifestyle to your chauffeur. In fact, he works longer and under more stress in Dubai traffic.

A monkey could fly the line, be President, or manage a hedge fund, they just aren’t allowed to - that’s why your next best option is stacking boxes, Maverick. Which there’s nothing wrong with by the way.

It is abhorrent you’d be on here moaning about having to get a temporary job until your inevitable return to luxury. So what?

The majority of your peers are in a far worse position, some facing a permanent role stacking boxes.

Be pissed off with the company, with governments and covid - but don’t complain about your finances here, or the fact you have to actually work for a living. Being utterly ungrateful and blinded to the realities of the world.

Yeah, I’m the bad guy. Poor you.

fully agreeing with xulu....
the ‘lucky ones’ still get a house above their head and school paid and for some even housing allowance... AND a ticket back...
I got none of that. so stop the whining....
But sure before someone cuts me off..I deserve it, because I got 1 long term sickness of more than 4 weeks in 15 years time...
