EK to Decommission 50%+ of Airbus A380, Axe 1/2 of Pilots & Cabin Crew
The industry has been totally turned on its head, previously a widebody command and long haul flying was the position to aspire to, preferably in a legacy airline in your home country or as an expat in Asia or the ME. Low cost was looked down as simply a means of getting jet time before moving on, or a fill in job. Once you got into a decent airline, multi sector days in narrow bodies was something you put up with until you got promoted.
The job security of a government backed ME carrier or consistently profitable Asian one was a big draw card and guaranteed a comfortable retirement.
Now it's the short haul pilots who are to be envied, with many flying an almost normal roster and tentative plans laid out for recovery in this area. Long haul is comatose for the foreseeable future, with QF A380 pilots driving busses in Sydney and CX pilots waiting for compulsory redundancy notices in June.
However EK is better off than CX as the airline is integral to the city state and needs to be kept going at all costs, where as HKG is out of favour the Chinese Government, which has no real need for CX and appears to be positioning Greater Bay Airlines to replace it. Bailing out a largely foreign owned airline with 150 widebodies grounded and burning cash like an incinerator won't be a priority for Beijing.
EY has withdrawn from the fight for world domination, which could leave SQ, QR and EK as the main hub airlines for the world once this pandemic eventually ends.

So let me get this straight. In your view, there will be only 3 hub airlines. EK QR and SQ. each more miserable than the last. CX just seems like it was always a terrible place to work. Atmosphere in CX would rival that of QR. I think you’ll find that Ryanair and especially EasyJet, are proper airlines with proper rosters. Not like EK where you would get a random roster each month and none of what you bid for. Unless you were a cousin of one of the roster boys. Or a cabin crew willing to give special favours.

the only people I meet here who tell me that Emirates is better to work for than any western carrier have never worked in a western carrier and are nearly always South African and aussiemates who did a bit of bush flying.

You don’t think Ryanair and EasyJet are proper airlines and Emirates is?
Where have you been the last 13 months? You do realise that more than 1200 A380 pilots got made redundant. By email. Every few weeks. Not knowing who is next, not knowing how long it will go on for. Living in a constant fear.
You sound like the typical EK pilot with that comment. Completely out of touch with reality.

Spot on actually. There was no communication from the company for 18 days after those emails were sent out. Then when the update came it stated that “ this is a flight ops update and we only cover operational issues” corp coms will update you shortly.... yet 2-3 month earlier, we were getting weekly ops updates keeping us informed on the unpaid leave situation for the lads out in China?.

You can scratch SQ off that list. The Singapore government can't get enough of quarantines, border closures, and transit restrictions, so all SIA can do is sit there watching their market share gobbled up by competitors for the next couple years.

You will always find Fatbus the first off the mark with small words of encouragement. Have a look back at his posting history since the beginning of the debacle. A true blessing to us all in these dark days.

I should be so lucky to have a job in a European LCC. Like I said, out of touch. Proven by your comment.

Apologies for deletion. The original was reported to have caused an eye disorder in another poster. He is now full of rage, ranting at the injustice of working for EK and how it ruined his life. See below for details......
Now n_n its all about you so I agree, an account of very little...
