That could all change with the stroke of a pen . When there was a serious pilot shortage retirement age went from 60-65 in 2007 ,retirement benefits were grandfathered. I can see " new hires" on much reduced T & Cs.

That is exactly the reason why they got rid of so many people so early and fast - to change the TnC for the next Generation of meat
and to make room for the local cadets, otherwise they would not have a chance to get a job for next 3-5 years

And one month of the year when the flying schedule will be totally on hold.....
And doesn't if feel good that experienced pilots with thousands of SAFE flying hours are let go to make way for cadet guys/girls who haven’t even got as far as twins, and cant even spell IR yet.

He stays, he goes, he stays, he goes..... Doesn’t matter who fills what seat at EK. The one thing that remains consistent is the
and rotten culture which you can bet will remain! A toxic, back stabbing, unsafe and destructive place filled with endless ego and gross incompetence! Remember one thing - The system at EK isn’t broken at all; it was designed the way it is!!! Sad bunch!

Pretty good overview of the economic effects to Dubai’s local economy due to the recent EK layoffs:

You can read a version of it here. It doesn't seem to be word for word, as some grammar is somewhat questionable but you should be able to understand the points made.

It's going to be a long time for Dubai to recover . Mo is going to have to put in a load of money for years to come to prevent Dubai totally failing . Younger pilots that did not get fired might want to look for "greener pastures " in the event that EK shuts down .
