Don, where did you get this information from? Nothing along these lines has been in either the Italian or the Spanish news.

Thanks EchoKilla, that only applies to Australia. Where are the news articles regarding Spain and Italy?

Governments spout this stuff because it looks good in the press. Reality is that we truly are a global society and international travel will come back sooner rather than later... They'll just do it on the QT!

Oktoberfest September 19 through October 4 is cancelled.

'The risk is simply too high': Germany's Oktoberfest canceled because of coronavirus pandemic

Morgan Hines
USA TODAY
April 21, 2020

Germany's Oktoberfest is canceled.

Markus Söder, Bavaria's minister president, and Dieter Reiter, Munich's lord mayor, announced the news together Tuesday, citing the coronavirus pandemic as the reason for the cancellation.

"It hurts, it's such a pity," Söder said, as noted in comments shared on the Oktoberfest website from the news conference. "We have agreed that the risk is simply too high."

The German beer festival, scheduled to take place Sept. 19 through Oct. 4, expected nearly 6 million guests to attend. According to Reuters, Oktoberfest brings in 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) into Munich.

Coronavirus could spread rapidly through beer tents, streets and alleyways if guests crowded Munich for the festival.

I can assure you, that at least in WA.. the message is clear. The borders are shut until at least 2021. The Premier is not ‘spouting’ this stuff.. he is serious when he says.. stay away we don’t want you.

a simple google search produces what you look for!!!

but here you go!!

https://www.godsavethepoints.com/spa...vel-bans-2020/

it’s gonna be a while before all the networks open up. It isn’t just one country - this is a global issue. Currently supply chain is the only concern - no one gives a rats bottom about when anyone will be able to take snaps at Rome coliseum. Think about basic notion - countries repatriating citizens. Even here in UAE they are repatriating thousands of pakistanis - there’s going to be a time period in between where everyone is sheltered in place. Borders opening up is a while away - even small steps

theres already a second outbreak in northern China brewing as we speak and most medical officers expect another bout in the autumn. I think EK will have ample time to produce those beautiful PPE uniforms coming out shortly

Nuweiba.
When the population of Dubai is approximately 1/3rd the size of London’s population alone ( about 10 million),and a total UK population of between 65-70 million then of course the “percentage” tested is going to be lower. It’s the number of tests carried out that’s important, bearing in mind that the UK started off with a testing capability of somewhere between 2-5000 a day, it’s now sitting over 100,000 a day.
Please let’s compare like for like.

Locals,
Treatment in the UK for Covid is free as are the majority of procedures, in that it’s paid for by taxing the population.
Boris was just preparing the public for the stark truth that many people would die, having seen Italy’s death toll, what should he have said, it’s going to be a walk in the park !
Sir Patrick Vallance used the term herd immunity as one of the ways of slowing the spread of the disease by people catching it and building up antibodies within their body’s therefore stopping the spread, it wasn’t and never has been government policy to infect us all and get on with it, it’s what a vaccine does, gives us herd immunity, and apart from either a vaccine or drugs to cure this virus, is the only thing that is going to save us. He also made that statement at the beginning of the pandemic when little was actually known about the virus, it’s replication and spread.

LOCALS, this is a virus, there is no cure. So if a hospital deems you not critical they will send you home as there is no point to keep you there and occupy a bed unnecessarily. They will only admit you if you need a ventilator and are struggling to breathe. All treatment is symptomatic - nothing they give you will cure this as a virus needs to run its course. You can only treat the symptoms, not the virus itself.
Unlike bacteria, this is much harder to get rid off.

Locals,

As far as I’m aware and I try and watch the daily briefings, especially when either Prof Chris Whitty who is our Chief Medical Officer, Sir Patrick Vallance who is the Chief Scientific Advisor and Prof Johnathan Van Dam who is the Deputy CMO so that I get the information straight from the horses mouth.
They have stated that both ICU and HCU beds have always been available, in fact they built at lightening speed the Nightingale Hospitals to deal with a potential overflow of Covid patients, which thankfully have hardly been touched.
I can’t comment on your friends father, except if he needed medical treatment he would of got it, admittance to hospital would be based on the risk of further complications by catching Covid outweighed the benefits of being admitted, if let’s say he had a terminal condition that just required medication to manage pain etc it would be better for him to be at home with his family, rather than being admitted, catching the virus and still dying in an ICU with no friends or family by his side. I’m sure it was a clinical decision by the Drs based on his medical issue.

All passengers departing Dubai will be tested instantly before boarding. And of course, strict controls are in place for arrivals at Dubai. Unlike UK airports. Even their lockdown is far more rigid than the UK's.

I think you are living in a cloud. The virus is everywhere, Where are you thinking EK will fly to?

Clearly been drinking The Khaleej Times koolaid. FYI the President of Tanzania tested a goat and a pawpaw with one of those kits and they also both came back positive. Those tests are a joke.

I’d be interested how many pax are going to come to the U.K. and Spain via Dubai knowing they will be subject to a 14 day quarantine. If they are planning cargo flights then I can see some logic there, however, I would have thought flying a 777 let alone an A380 with minimal pax is a sure fire way of losing money?

And I thought the borders were still closed to foreigners in Australia and New Zealand.

This 14 days rule applies to all flights coming from non-schengen into schengen countries

they can use dxb as a transit and maybe connect the GCC for now and SE Asia once they open up. The sad fact it is we have to learn how to live with the virus until there is a vaccine. We can’t live like it doesn’t exist but we need to be able to more around a bit

More likely just have to learn to live with it... There may or may not be a vaccine; can't be counted on. One of the news articles today reckons that more than a third of Brits have had the virus in the UK already so it's probably likely in many countries too. I guess this 'herd immunity' thingy is the way to go!
