More redundancies at the unmentionable.

The unmentionable has started giving their pilots a voluntary redundancy scheme to reduce numbers. If they do not receive enough applications, another round of 150 pilot terminations expected. They should just second them to Air Arabia-Abu Dhabi instead !!!

Is the redundancy package for all or just Arabs ? In GF, there was a package but not for ex-pats at the time of the grounding of the entire 767 fleet. I suggested to HR that if the scheme were extended to expats, we would all leave and the over-manning problem would cease to exist overnight. HR bod couldn't stop laughing.

At the moment 79 pilots have requested voluntary redundancy. Others requesting it are on hold until a final decision about the “damp lease” to Saudia has been reached. With little or no expansion planned until at least 2023 and 450 Emirati cadet pilots in the pipeline and an ever increasing Emiratisation programme, annual redundancies are likely to be the norm for sometime to come.

This unmentionable outfit was the holy grail for pilots who were being released from contracts around the world - what was it - 6 to 7 years ago! The princess at the ball. Now the ugly duckling. Hope the crew that are released/terminated can find gainful employ.

It appears that this damp lease arrangement has come to an end, two aircraft back to UAE and no more to come.
