Low to medium basic salary. Housing around 60k. Transport is about 400 a month. No business class travel. Grade 7 in Dubai can be a struggle. Especially when it comes to living expenses. Also it is really difficult to transition from EK.7 to EK.8.

Thank you for clarifying that Joker. I guess no one should accept Grade7 or below, not only Europeans.

Dear membersI am currently interviewing for a position in IT at emirates HQ in Dubai, I was told that this position is a grade 8 level, I am currently a manager in a different airline and I would like to understand if grade 8 is senior enough in the org structure? Also if anyone can shed some light on the difference of benefits between grade 8 & 9 will great. Thank You

Yep. Grade 8 is a specialist level role. Non mgmt. Grade 9 is a mgmt level role. Grade 8 housing allowance is half that of grade 9, and medical insurance is category B compared to category A for Grade 9. Also Grade 8 attracts only end of service bonus, which is a multiple of months salary per year worked whereas Grade 9 is enrolloed in the EK Provident Retirement fund. Salary bandings are wide and do cross over. Depends how hard you negotiate on joining. Thats the basic difference. Ask them to detail differences in the medical scheme.

Thank you for the response, these pointers are helpfull.
Its going to be a fixed term contract and I am thinking if they give me enough money, job grade wouldn't matter, since I can take additional medical cover externally, is that right? Should I lookout for anything else apart from PF & Medical?

After being told I shouldn't bite the hand that feeds me I drafted my resignation letter. So good luck. I am out.

Unless you are wanting a job in rostering, where there are ample opportunities to 'supplement' one's income!

Does anyone have details of the higher EK salary grades and what they equate to. i.e. what level would a senior manager, Director etc be.

Cheers SM
