Perhaps they should comb through their previous applications with similar stories...mind you,

Mate, you won the lottery...I would never ever consider going there under current conditions!!

How long before EK has to offer commuting contract to regain some appeal compared to Asian carriers, as let’s face it, there is only so much money you can throw at pilots before it stops being a factor?

They would have to throw money at the pilots first. The company will go bankrupt before they would ever concede to the wishes of the pilot group.

Is it not easier just to merge the two finally? And get rid of the surplus fleet. Nice mix of short and long-haul AB and Boeing, and two bases eventually moving into one in 30 or so years. By then the two cities will be almost touching each other along the coast anyway... Abu Dubai.

Certainly looking like the direction of travel. If Al Nahyan can get over the loss of face from not having his own airline it could happen fairly soon, and it would solve a lot of problems for both EK and EY.

The local political issue is that a merger would result in the disposal of pretty much all of the neighbours fleet. It wouldn't be so much of a merger as a wipe out and the neighbours powers that be really don't like being taken over by the younger brother.

2008 Abu Dhabi bails out Dubai.

2018 - nobody in AD hierarchy wants to see EK bail out .... you know who.
