big thumbs up to the FO who just brought me from Dublin to Dubai, seriously nice grease job landing, didn’t even feel any touchdown, she just started rolling

Usually means an error has been made - too slow at touchdown or too far down the runway.

This thread reminds me that the monitored approach policy at BA had the benefit of giving me a source of great comedy at Oslo one morning. Captain was PM for the flight but flying the approach, as we handed over at 1000' he took the time to remind me of the fact that the best landings come from the most stable approaches. Luckily enough I absolutely greased it on, with an almost imperceptible kiss of rubber on tarmac and, as the nosewheel lowered, he remarked "ooh that was a lovely approach!" Had me in stitches.
Smooth landings? pah! my efforts usually result in a prolapse or two down the back, trapping a perfect three wire during a controlled crash return to deck, now thats a landing!
Must be an airbus thing only these days as I hear they were replacing the gear on the vunderbus, just like my old mob had to do on the 330 once or twice.

Joined Gf in '93. No DEC but had to endure RHS for a bit. Fabbo trip to Manilla with megga NZ Capt. For hour after hour we put the world and people to rights and slated off all of the worlds pilots that we both knew. Just as he rounded out he said " Well ole mate, this is where all the BS ends" and g....r....e....a....s.....e...d on !. Hated him.

Had one of those into Dammam. Didn't know that we had touched down. Cabin Crew judged me well that day. Captain was a generally pissed off trainer. Didn't even give me the opportunity to smile.
Haven't ever greased it on that well since. Just a fluke.

Had a flight from Tehran to Dubai once in an Airbus with EK with no nose-wheel steering ( detected on start of take-off run ). Gentlest, smoothest landing ever - but with a very long tug all the way in to the terminal.

I was flying into Salt Lake once with American and the aircraft was slammed into the ground harder than any other I have ever experienced. Once we had all put our teeth back in one of the FA's came over the intercom and simply said "We've Landed" and the whole plane burst out laughing. I doubt any EK FA's would have the gumption to break rules like that.

There’s plenty of negativity and pouncing on all errors, major and minor.

Tend to agree with a lot above. The greaser isn’t the best method however they are nice to do. Couple of funnies from when I was driving a bus...
Righto the runway very wet to FO expect a firm landing, DOH absolute greaser...
Funniest one, FO did a shocker and I mean a shocker, he was convinced it was a hard landing, I convinced him it was a ****e landing but I’d seen worse. Poor fella was distraught so I said don’t worry I can fix it, confused look. Exited the runway stopped the aircraft after the checklist, picked up the PA, ladies and gents must apologise for that rather firm landing, just to let you know it was the first officer not me.... FO didn’t know wether to laugh or cry. On disembarking I got him to stand in the galley and say seeya, pax were fantastic a little fun humour, not one bad comment but so much fun. Yes it was a tourist flight.
Before you shoot me, I happened to do a rather firm arrival to earth, ditto on the above..... However the pax were less kind telling me I should learn how to land (yes still with humour).

Previous airline captain apologized for the landing. His PA went something like this: “ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to app for that landing you just experienced. It wasn’t my fault; it wasn’t the airplane’s fault. It was the asphalt”. True story!

On hard landings, it was easy to tell when the pilots had recently converted from a smaller, high wing turboprop to a swept wing jet like a 717... they used to put it down very... firmly for the first week or two... my chiropractor loved em, kept him in business! 😉
another time we had a zinger into Sydney on the A380, I jokingly asked the FO where was the kangaroo. "What kangaroo?" He said. "The one you were trying to miss"
... Got an earful for that from the purser, turned out though a bird hit the windscreen right at the wrong moment so they put down harder than intended... so I wasn't that far off... haha
