To put rostering stuff on the pay review is a new low.
They also included a one off 5 weeks bonus in the year long pay review as well

So to them, it’s obviously cheaper to upgrade the current FO and wait to feed both fleets with the upcoming FO from ETC to substitute the captains shortage!!! What a great business plan. Hitler is not dead 💀. I need more than 3% to clean the dust from today’s weather.

For me, it wasn’t about the money. It was about their ability to attract decent pilots in to reduce our workload and therefore fix other issues such as leave/bidding.

Their solution is to eventually put Arabic cadets out of school, straight into an A380 and have us babysit them with a gun to our head should any mistakes be made.

They have made their intentions crystal clear now. They would rather park up planes and cancel flights than attract decent pilots. They will squeeze the life out of us to be replaced by cadets en masse.

There is no future for experienced pilots at Emirates.

I will be actively managing my own roster from now on. Starting tomorrow.

People love to work for Emirates' says Sheikh Ahmed

Emirates Group announced all employees will receive a five-week bonus following a 67% increase in annual profit

Emirates Group chairman and CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum
By Shayan Shakeel

Thu 10 May 2018 10:12 AM
Emirates Group announced all its employees would receive a five-week bonus this year, after the airline announced its profits more than doubled in its annual results for 2017-18.

The Dubai-based aviation group, which includes airport services firm dnata, announced full year profit of $1.1 billion (AED4.1bn) for the financial year ended 31 March 2018, up 67% from last year. Emirates airline reported a profit of $762m (AED 2.8bn), an increase of 124% on last year’s results.

At the post earnings announcement this week, Emirates Group chairman and CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum insisted that people “love to work for Emirates” and said group's well-established bonus scheme encourages greater staff input.

“The bonus is an incentive for staff to continue contributing ideas. The more we save on costs the more profit we make the more we can do this. At certain times we’ve paid anywhere up to 13 weeks. The average since we started the programme has been 4.5 weeks,” he said.

Emirates Group employs over 105,000 staff according to its 2016-17 annual report, roughly a quarter of whom were cabin crew.

Sheikh Ahmed acknowledged “two percent of employees have resigned,” but added that “it is normal” for an organisation of its size.

“I don’t know why everyone is making an issue about staff reductions. People love to work for Emirates,” he said. “A lot of people want to continue forever.”

Greater efficiency

Emirates is looking for “efficiency” said Sheikh Ahmed, adding that cost cutting “is something we should always continue to do even if it’s sometimes easier to do when your pockets are fuller.”

With the airline’s increasing reliance on technology and artificial intelligence, “a lot of tasks can now be automated,” he said.

“But we will never cut staff below regulatory requirements and standards or what works for our business. We don’t hire five employees to do work for 10 or vice versa.”

In January, Emirates confirmed to Arabian Business that it had made some positions redundant and a number of employees were offered lateral moves.

They included junior roles “which can have an impact on the benefits package.”

The airline declined to comment on the number of positions lost, but said “a very small number of staff” had been impacted.

In February, cabin crew speaking with Reuters said talks had taken place with chief operations officer Adel al-Radha about a number of issues including changes in rosters and rest periods on long flights.

Reuters later reported that the airline was facing a cabin crew shortage owing to resignations and an increase in the number of staff calling in sick.

Pilot deficit

In the meantime, Emirates is also looking to fill a deficit of up to 150 pilots, chief commercial officer Thierry Antinori, told Arabian Business at the Arabian Travel Market in April.

“The shortage has made us do what we would not have normally done such as cut back on flights to Florida,” Antinori said, “but the impact is quite limited. It certainly isn’t as dramatic as some are making it out to be,” he said.

News of frequencies being cut to some destinations “are due to commercial decisions,” meant to mitigate the combined impact of historically low demand for air travel during May and Ramadan occurring during the same month, according to Antinori.

“These decisions are independent of the shortage of pilots we are facing,” he said.

What Emirates “needs to communicate” to pilots is that the benefits it offers are incomparable to what they can gain in other parts of the world, said Antinori.

“If you had to choose between being an Emirates pilot versus options in Guangzhou, Mumbai or Addis Ababa then you’d want to be here rather than shuttle back and forth with your family to a place where the children have difficulties settling in. We offer a very competitive package in terms of housing allowance, all-inclusive healthcare benefits as well as other benefits that arise from being a world class city,” he said

wait wait wait...

A lot of people want to continue forever
but we won't let them especially cabin crew once they hit 50 because we (allegedly) don't want to renew their contracts...

But we will never cut staff below regulatory requirements and standards or what works for our business.
Except when we cut out 2 GR2 and reduce FG1 on ULR but expect the same service standard to be carried out but that's different...

We don’t hire five employees to do work for 10 or vice versa.”
Ahahahaha... um.... can you say Emiratisation? That is precisely hiring 10 to do the work of 5 (or of none as a visit to Costa on any given weekday mid morning will show you)

Clearly has NO idea what really goes on in this company.... or worse, he does... and does not care. Hopefully it is the former because at least then there is still a chance however minute that something will change.

And BBJ saying they’re looking into making 3/4 man trips more ‘efficient’ to free up Pilots.

Its those pesky FTL’s at fault again. So let’s just change em. Done!

Oh the possibilities for what they have planned.

Ha!!! That is the most ridiculous, incorrect statement in the whole article. $350,000 at several choices in China and EK is not even remotely close to that. Some places you can work 1 on/ 1 off and make what EK pays a Captain full time.

Hahahaha

same story over and over again! Don’t you guys learn really ? 🤪. EK will never ever give you what you want! Put this in your head and stop pretending you are employed but rather the property of . That should help you understand things...

So how can they solve this ? Why are so many looking at China ( and let’s face it if it wasn’t an NASA medical and another ATPL exam, EK wouldn’t have a single pilot left ) .

I very much doubt that last part of your statement. At most 10% of pilots will leave Emirates. That is a huge number by any standard but 90% of pilots will stay for various reasons the biggest reason being that they like EK. We all know some have tried and failed to leave but management will “only” lose 400-450 pilots at most and they will probably be the highest paid pilots.

I wonder!

How many bonded pilots feel so insulted by the lack of a pay rise that they use the 5 weeks profit share towards paying off their bond and therefore leave Emirates even earlier than their planned escape day.

Nice one Emirates. How to upset everyone and give those that are bonded and upset the means to leave.

It's not often that words fail me but on this occasion ..............,,,,!

Maybe we have... The quality of the few candidates that came this way wasn't too high so I've been led to believe!

Indeed it does make you wonder..... This announcement will no doubt result in a wave of resignations. Guys that are in a position to leave however would be willing to stay if things turned around. Big dust storm today, pathetic pay increase..... Plenty of motivation to type a letter. Those at HQ don't seem to worried... Full steam ahead. I wonder what they have planned???

If OPEC can collude on oil prices, if airlines can collude on cargo rates, who thinks they are they are incapable on colluding on pilot wages.

I think you will be surprised at how few pilots will leave after this latest insult. Sure some have their applications out and some have already been hired at other airlines but I’ll bet anyone EK loses at the most 200 pilots between now and 1Sept and that number is probably too high.
I know I said EK could potentially lose 400 plus pilots but after talking to some of the pilots today the numbers are way less. Most of the pilots weren’t too upset about this farce so I don’t know what it is going to take to make pilots upset and leave. Certainly not this.

We are witnessing some colleagues who are choosing to leave, before they even reach the stage of being unhappy. With the trajectory of the company following a constant decline, some are using a degree of foresight and deciding to leave, whilst they are still at the disillusioned stage.

Numbers aside, the crux of the matter is that this disappointing pay review will do little to reverse the current status quo, which sees too few join and too many leave.

Even if we do not see a wave of resignations, what is still significant is that this pay review may very well bring a number of colleagues a step closer to either evaluating their future at EK or to even bring them a step closer to actually resigning. Either scenario is unfavourable and especially so, after it was announced that they are looking to make LRV pairings more 'efficient' and we all know what that means!!!

Another big FAIL for the muppets of Ek. They can’t seem to grasp the basic model; Access, Action, Manage. This latest slap (pay reverse) shows their complete detachment from reality. I guess their solution is to park more airplanes, and turn DWC into an airline graveyard, and to charge admission for all to see the remains of a once promising airline. This latest will only reinforce the fact that EK is no longer an airline that anyone with any sense of sanity will want to bother coming too. They are directly responsible for their current predicament. Their latest media blitz to stabilize their plummeting reputation and brand, is just more arrogance and ignorance. Facts are they have zero credibility.

It's all of our own doing. In every meeting/GS or survey we perpetually hear that it is not about the money ...... it supposedly is about rostering and days off etc.
We gave them the legit to add the jumpy, no restriction on days off (although with the current numbers more than 5 are wishful thinking) and some swap torture lifted (stopping waterboarding was a great relief to war prisoners ....). They can now say it was what you wanted!
Even BBJ pretends that internal surveys showed a general satisfaction with the EPT! Seriously!!!!!!
We will never burst their trumplike perverted bubble by our pathetic mellowing of demands, just because some sycophant tells us to lower expectations. Either walk or talk, but don't sag. It's the worst option.
I fully agree that this decision is a open and deliberate pay cut. Work accordingly.

Riiiiiiiight, because none of us down the street could ever hope to compare to your impossibly high standards and superior skill level.

Or maybe it's because most of us who have resigned, like myself, have zero interest in a lateral (or in the case of 777 lifestyle: a severe lifestyle downgrade) move within the gulf region.

None of the experienced, competent colleagues I have spoken with who have resigned have expressed any interest in shifting up the road.
