Too much English..no?

Am I the only one to find it highly amusing that ELP 6 rated pilots, many of which are native to the U.K. and have been operating for decades, are to be assessed by a local language school? Some might suggest that at about 1200aed a test, someone’s cousin’s brothers auntie is making money...I couldn’t possibly comment.

That could be secondory reason too ... some money for some friends .... but I think the primary issue is reality that many poeple has ELP 6 and they are hardly ELP 4 .... how many guys from Italy, Spain and many southern nation got ELP6 without any assesment... everybody knows how this test or checks are running there ...
.... nothing personal guys, just manana siesta culture style .... less heart attacks 🤣

Being born and raised in a different english-only speaking country, I was given a ELP4 upon my arrival at EK (no assessment). 2 years later it was fixed by a friend who was working at the GCAA at the time.

Given that our recurrent exams, e-learning voice overs, etc., don't even have correct english ( the Queens or the Yanks), I certainly won't be taking one of these assessments if the coin is coming from my pocket.

dear chmila,
I come from one of those countries where english is not properly tought and i am well aware of it.
But here we are talking about English. And when i mean English i mean that and not scotish, irish, ozi, kiwi, southafrican and many more.
I always try to force myself to have a decent accent, i cannot say the same from many "english" natural speaker.........
So maybe before criticizing the siesta people think how many different accent we are supposed to understand.........

Which they are well aware of and choose to ignore.

I recall one recurrent session, when half a class fell short of the mark by one question. On discussion in the cafeteria, I realised they were all non-native English speakers and the question in question (heh) was so poorly written I'd been lucky to understand it myself as a native English speaker. Brought up the issue with the training lot, even re-wrote the question to correct English and was rebuffed without so much as "we'll look into it". Luckily all those crew passed the re-sit (likely because we ran through the 'how to spot EKglish questions" method)

Two years later the same question was still in the exam. Let's not start on the current one that is along the lines of 'Which answer is correct?" A. True B False

Dear Flareflyer,
I absolutely understand what you are talking about, because I am from non english enviroment country as well. I can hardly speak and my grammer is night mare. .-)
Worse case scenario was flying with somobody from UK ... perfetct english ... probably too perfect for my knowledge. So for my self it is long life fight to be better and improve a little bit.
But my point was not about accent or that somebody is not native .... that would mean shooting in own foot, but point was about guys like me and you who has real level lf 4,5 but they have from some “tricky” reason ELP 6. And believe me I met a lot of them ... as well many imigrants with US passport, with strong latino accent hard to understand, but showing to everybody .... ELP6 ..... and because there is in our gulf area a lot issue with comm, thats sound like reaction ... not talking solution, just reaction ...

Hahaha!!! I think you have coined a new word!!

Shame that when blatant errors are pointed out, they are almost always ignored.

Just another box ticking exercise, I’m the proud recipient of ELP 4 on my UAE License which is somewhat ironic given that my training qualifications on my UK license allow me to award ELP 6 to trainees.
Surely the cod will be along shortly virtue signalling and telling us all how racist we are.

Many moons ago, during transition training, I was criticized for my English being "Too strong!" whatever the hell that meant!
When I asked what the root cause analysis of that might be I received a blank expression. OIC.............

It means you speak English in such a way that no one understands you.
