EK Leaving question
To clarify as I cannot find the answer in the resignation thread... if your last actual day of flying is for example Sept 1, then 1. Does the company give you Sept 2nd-4th or 2nd-6th to get your paperwork done (some say 3 days, some say 5 days in the past) ? 2. Do they consider the last day of service then the 1st or the 5th? 3. Does the repatriation ticket have to be booked 30 days from the 1st or the 5th? 4. What day do they actually hand over "the cheque"?

You will be given three working days in which to turn in your passport for visa cancellation.
As an example.
Your last flight arrives in Dubai on a Sunday morning.
The company will schedule you to have three working days off for visa cancellation, Mon Tues wed .
Wednesday will be your last day on payroll.
If your last flight arrives in Dubai on a Tuesday then you will still be scheduled for three working days off but it will look like five due to the weekend.
As an example,wed and Thursday are working days , Friday and Saturday are not and therefore not part of your three days..... Sunday is the 3rd working day.
Hopefully this explains why some people are given three days off at the end and some five.

Repat ticket....
It can be booked right at the end of the 90 days if you need the extra time in Dubai.
You can also schedule the ticket up to 28 days after the last day of service.... Don't feel like you are required to leave dxb the next day.
The 28 day limit maybe a 30 day limit,buts it's pretty close.
A friend just went through this and I kept notes.

The cheque.... Or as they call it , the final settlement is given to you when you return to pick up your passport.
You can go to nbd bank downstairs and cash it on the same day if you wish.
There is no requirement to close any bank account or for ek to collect your residence card either.

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify do you mean your 90 day notice period? My understanding is you have 30 days from last day of service (the day they take your visa) to use that ticket (I suspect it lines up with how long anyone after their visa is cancelled to leave the country)- are you saying I could book a repatriation leaving Dubai more than 30 days after LDS?

You are correct,
The 30 day clock starts from the last day of service, book the ticket before your last day of service and use it within 30 days of your last day of service.
I modified my post above to hopefully clarify this.
Your repat ticket is the same as an ALT... It is confirmed... Business for cpts and economy for first officers with the possibility of upgrading .

Don't worry, the EoS is the most efficient and helpful team you will ever encounter in EK.
Everything will go so smoothly you'll spend your time wondering when something will go wrong...

PAYROLL dept. will be the only one holding you back. They need to calculate every Fils you may owe them, before they calculate your end of service benefits. And only after that, they start on the Visa Cancellation process.(UAE and all US VISA issued under Emirates request).
EOS staff are very helpful in guiding you through the Leaving Process.
You are Lucky if you get your Passport and Provident Fund Cheque exactly at your LDS (last day of Service). Normally, a delay on Visa cancellation takes an extra 2 days. The company provides the pilot 2 nights FREE hotel Accomodation at the Holiday Inn express besides EGHQ after the LDS.
About the Repat Ticket, you can always rebooked it later as you like. but you need to exit the UAE 30 day after your Visa is cancelled.
With your LDS set and you have made up your mind how to claim your PROVIDENT. If by cash, I suggest you visit the NBD branch at the Mezzanine and set a date to Encash your cheque specially with a big amount, if over a million dirhams. They might not have enough CASH in one day, specially if there are 2 pilots encashing at the same time.

I may just ask for the Provident fund to be directly transferred from Offshore to my account back home- just wondering if anyone ran into any hiccups doing that- seems more reassuring to have that transfer receipt from Al Rostamani in my hands.. decisions, decisions..

I know a few people who have had the Prov Fund directly transferred and no problems reported.
I will be having my Prov Fund directly transferred too and have opened a US$ account to accept the funds so I can transfer into local currency at the timing of my choice.

I have the same plan but do Emirates NBD convert to USD at the official 3.673 rate?
If they use the rate of 3.76 which seems to be the norm for Credit Card payments that's several 000 USD down the pan.

In my naivety, I thought that as the Prov Fund was denominated in $ and I had arranged a $ account to accept the funds then the $ value of the Prov Fund at closure would be transferred in full, in $, to my offshore $ account without ever passing through a AED account.
Or is that too sensible?

In my naivety, I thought that as the Prov Fund was denominated in $ and I had arranged a $ account to accept the funds then the $ value of the Prov Fund at closure would be transferred in full, in $, to my offshore $ account without ever passing through a AED account.
Or is that too sensible?

The funds are held in USD but you can nominate which currency you want the payout to be at that days exchange rate ( this related to a transfer directly to your bank account)
As as example, if you want to be paid in euros then you will have the equivalent of your USD account transferred in euros.
As always confirm the above, the folks at mondal are helpful in such matters.

My exit went smoothly enough, I had already set up a usd dollar account with an off shore bank and had my last cheque once cleared and my prov fund sent there, if your going contracting and expect to get paid in usd it’s not a bad idea. Only hitch I had was getting back my bond on the villa, I had given the bank details I wanted it paid into as requested on the portal but it never showed up, I tried to log into my bank account to see if it had been sent there but could no longer log in, emailed EOS but got no response. A few months later I had a friend go through DXB on a layover, gave him my card and low and behold the cash was there!
