Unpaid Leave.

Got wind of a story that unpaid leave is being offered to pilots, at a UAE based airline, commencing 5 February. Pilots are being asked to bugger off for up to 18 months if I'm not mistaken. One might have thought that if cash flow is down, perhaps a better saving would be firing the various Emirati VP's of Corporate Image Fabrication, Lying in During Ramadan, Clocking in Without Going to Work, etc...?

So, has the UAE Republic of Slavery and Autocracy finally started to see it's ass? Let's hope so.

Well, an un-named UAE airline grounded it's A330 freighter fleet, obviously leading to a surplus of pilots.

Nice to see the Sage of Omaha is right again and now the tide is out.....

EK was and is a business and will survive. The lads with the Louvre and QR were publicity stunts with large budgets. With the oil money gone, the stunt is gone.

Mr. Hubris, meet Mr. Nemesis.

QNH1013,
Do you think qr has made any profit since it began operating?

$540m in fye 2017, $445 in 2016.

They’ll make a loss this year, but that should make you ponder what the motivation behind the Qatar vs GCC crisis is.

Qr is the wealthiest of the me3, has the best product and lately better salary and working conditions, for sure they didn’t buy more than 100 A380, only a fool would and sooner or later, when ek will find herself with a ton of unsellable aircrafts the bill will arrive.
Saudia ek and ey are a bit jealous of this and are trying to fix it ( without success for the moment) ME style, the same style they use to hide accidents and incidents ( qr is similar on this one ).

Had chance to chat with EK 7th floor people (at EGHQ, not 7 paradise). He said most of EK 380 are leased from leasing companies and airbus is behind those companies. Eventually they are all airbus' problem not EK's.

Perhaps the American carriers could look to provide a modern customer service experience instead of the lag behind the rest quality they currently provide. Instead of bitching endlessly with their petty jealousies on show, they should address the issues withing their control. When was the last time an American airline introduced an enhanced passenger product that became accepted worldwide?

Sure EK, EY and QR are undergoing tough times right now, if they were American they might be looking to file Chapter 11 to escape their problems. Isn't Chapter 11 a form of subsidising an airline and allowing it to still fly whilst owing loads of dosh all over the place?

USD$400-500 million profits is much more believeable and likely than EK's Muliti Billion dollar profits every year. More so when I read pilot's here stating EK are flying A380's with 1/4 full loads.

Which Facts would they be Fatbus?

Your 65% load factor? The fact that your Yields are the lowest they have been since 2009? Last time I paxed on EK between DXB-DOH, be lucky if there was 150 passengers on board. This FACT is something relayed on numberous occassions by friends who work there.
So what facts are incorrect?

Your not so subtle allegation that QR is subsidiesed by the government is as subtle as my assertion that EK gets the same benefit from their government.
