Breakdown of the Indigo Partners order.
Wizz - 72 A320neo, 74 A321neo
Frontier - 100 A320neo, 34 A321neo
JetSMART - 56 A320neo, 14 A321neo
Volaris - 46 A320neo, 34 A321neo
Seems that Airbus make very popular single aisle short haul aircraft yet struggle to make a successful widebody long haul. After the 340 and 380 debacles I wonder if they will have another go.

Fliion is possibly one of the more balanced posters on this forum. To call him him EK blinkered is way off base.
Jet I I. Take a look at a330 and a350 orders. Kids who get stuck up on brands need to get out more.

What is there that competes against the 747/777 and is successful?

There's a great book waiting to be written about the 380. A once-in-a-century intersection of Gallic hubris and executive megalomania produces a poorly executed and wasteful product for which there is (patently) no market whatsoever.
Underpinning the unintentional comedy is the fact that anyone with a grade-school education and an abacus can calculate that there is absolutely no set of circumstances under which an airline could operate the airplane profitably.

Well if the argument is that the A350-1000 is a direct competitor in the 777/747 market then it actually proves my point.
The A350-1000 has been flying for a year and has 169 orders - the 777X isn't even due to fly for another 2 years (if it remains on schedule) and it already has 326 orders. Which one is looking to be the biggest commercial success?

326 ordered. 150 ordered by EK...hmmm, any other aeroplane have order numbers like that?
The 77x order covers both the -8 and the -9. Do the same with the 350 and it has 858 orders. None by EK.
The 380 and the 77x are both too expensive for airlines, hence the lack of orders.

It’s already been written. Airbus vs Boeing by John Newhouse, published in 2008.

This chap prefers to use a knife which is a little longer and has a serrated edge:
Teal Group’s Richard Aboulafia had this to say about the A380:
..he described it as “born to die”.
The final delivery will take place by 2020 “with unpleasant losses all around”.
“Launched with a hideous mix of hubris, shoddy market analysis, nationalism and simple wishful thinking, the A380 was destined for a short, painful life”.
“This has been a learning experience, albeit one for people who should have known better from the start. When launching a new jet, it’s important to survey the market trends, regulatory changes, likely technological developments, and customer preferences. None of that was done here”.

So to resume the show:
EK ordered 40 dreamliners, Indigo placed an intent to order 430 neos (some 70 confirmed), FlyDubai ordered i can't remember how many Maxes, nobody had to eat his hat, i didn't suffer a heart attack and our chaiman repeated a well known quote that might inflict a stroke to KD et al .....
