EK FO bails
So when you thought you'd heard it all...
FO does not show up for pickup in AMS. Turns out he's just left everything in the room and gotten back home.
Accused by captain of stealing money from his flight bag. Refused to continue flying with the captain. No support from the company.
Rather than going to Dubai and possibly facing criminal charges in a screwed system he bailed...
Too bad the mailboxes are removed...

...which may of course be a career-limiting move.
There may be questions from his next prospective employer that he´ll find hard to answer, and he better avoid setting foot in the UAE again.

To be fair to the person in question, I'd have serious reservations flying with an accuser if I'd been accused, perhaps he would have been better served suggesting the Capt call the police? In any case who seriously cares what sort of career move it is, if it's right to do you do it.

In this market I wouldn't worry about leaving a previous employer under any circumstances. Plus everyone in the industry knows all about Emirates and their operating practices. If a pilot tells a prospective employer how they shafted EK it will probably get him hired on the spot.

I wouldn't recommend doing it this way but the word is indeed out on the street so don't think it will really affect him.
An acquaintance of mine bailed from an unmentionable airline down the road in this fashion a few years back in a location a bit south of Amsterdam and its not stopped him getting other jobs...

While viewing this post I'm also getting a recruiting banner from EK.

We've all seen what happens when the Co decides you're in the wrong... even if you're really not.
Must have felt amazing to leave the uniform and ID and walk away. I know of several CC who did the same after trying to work situations out in an adult and legal manner and hitting brick walls.

Fantastic news. Things really are hotting up in recent times! Lots of changes in Ts and Cs, strikes, staff leaving for better conditions all over the world... UK, Ireland, ME, HK - what is next on the cards? Either things will get better or worse. Maybe I should have chosen a different career!

There is no such thing of smuggling money into Europe to avoid tax, you can bring in a million euros in cash , as long as you properly declare if you won't pay a cent of tax on it

Not sure where you get that from! https://www.gov.uk/tax-foreign-income says:
"If you're not UK resident, you won't have to pay UK tax on your foreign income. If you're UK resident, you'll normally pay tax on your foreign income. But you may not have to if your permanent home ('domicile') is abroad." 😉

So just be careful as they’ll no doubt be chasing you (whether fairly or unfairly) for their cut.

Where it becomes interesting is if your wife / family goes home and you have a property you own in the UK then the amount of days you can spend in the country per year before being counted as a ‘resident’ for tax purposes dramatically reduces... I think at the time I last checked a few years ago it can be as critical as spending only 23 days in the UK and getting fully taxed if you have major connections there (family moved home, house etc). And that 23 days includes those being worked on layovers I believe. The rule used to be 183 days I think (basically half the year) before tax eligibility, but obviously the GFC brought home a few truths.
