SOPS, I don't adore this Company any more or less than most others. What I accept is that there have been improvements in our rostering within the last 6 months. Our monthly hours have reduced and the option given to us to bid for a string of five days off has returned. Some have tagged this onto the following month and I've seen 8 consecutive days off on some rosters. We also have more preferences now and the satisfaction from most bids is better than it was a year previously. That's what should be 'embraced', the fact that at least we're moving in the right direction. Is there a perfect rostering system? Maybe for the senior guys in the likes of United and BA but ask the junior guys. At least in EK even the most junior pilot will get 3-4 decent rosters each year.

As for the new portal, who gives a fig. They've changed it and we WILL get used to it. If it doesn't work, write to your bloody manager. 'IT' is a joke in this place and along with the accommodation department, is full of the the most overstaffed and inept individuals a Company couldn't wish for. Personally, I couldn't give a rats arse if I can't access GABI before the flight. That's what the extra report time is for and I'll be damned if the Company expects me to faff around on a crappy system during my own time. You fellas want to do it, be my guest! How the hell did we ever manage to brief and undertake a successful flight before GABI came about anyway?!! Same for the tablets. Hate the bloody thing and when it stops working, I couldn't care less. Personally, I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that the Company has once again incorporated an electronic device without any formal training or practical guidance. This is an integral part of our operation yet they assume we will learn by osmosis from our colleagues even though we can only operate one device at a time! Why don't they use the RTGS days to spend a few hours teaching us the shortcuts and nuances of these computers that we will be shortly be relying on. It's an accident waiting to happen. Personally, I can't see them being fully approved.

Don, as for the sim, I've done the 3am start and it's ****. I was knackered at the end of the 3rd day and some of the training benefits were questionable. However, the sims have to be used and we have to be able to perform at these times. We often do a 24 hr layover with difficult start times both ends so I disagree with your argument. The third day anyway is training and manual handling so hardly a ball breaker! The saving grace is that the instructor too is often struggling at these times! Having said that, I am disappointed that MM has not insisted on the third day being broken from the string or, as he promised, have a day off then rest day before these duties. It was constantly promised for each and every subsequent month during phase 1 and it never materialised. That's shameful and shows lack of integrity and responsibility on his part.

So, no, I haven't been near the kool aid ruserious. Never even seen the damn drink that you refer too but I do take a large dose of reality salts each day. Sadly, and what some fail to realise, is that while we have our problems, so do many other outfits out there, as some who've already left have found to their cost. I'm all for fighting and writing for what you believe in, but FFS be realistic about what can and can't be changed.

TU

I wish you well in your new career and along with the likes of SOPS, Goretex, Kaptainluitenant, nolimitholdem and many others, genuinely admire you for having the guts and balls to leave and move on.

The Outlaw

Sorry to disappoint fella. Truth be told, I watched Dunkirk last night and came home mentally drained and somewhat reflective. Made me realise, seriously, what **** we complain about at times. All relative I know and hardly an accuse to accept bread and jam every day, but it did put our privileged lives into perspective.

Now Harold,

Don't knock GABI outside duty hours - it's quite helpful. And if you say you don't access it over a coffee at the hotel from time to time - bollox.

Not a single pilot I've chatted to, likes the new Roster format - it's a shocker, though in fairness, you said "the faults will be ironed out". Why for the love of God are they there in the first place?

The roster improvements came about by a sense of consensus building & protest on here, in RGTS, in the car, in the flight deck, - where one gets a bit of collective feedback on whether one's ideas are mainstream (for the most part they are) and as such protest takes place in fleet forums, via letter writing, feedback to Seniors/Trainer/Mngrs, prune online etc etc.

The 3rd floor read these forums - and get a sense of reaction - hence the issues immediately addressed in Weekly Flt Ops update re the new FOIP.

These threads are a part of our "union". You add a sense of objectivity- which I personally welcome - as it's important to have level heads like yours that don't "spook the herd" unnecessarily.

That said the format of the new portal is a disgrace - and your voice defending such was a surprise.

Let's hope they change the front page to a readable ROSTER format that makes our lives easier - not harder!

Outlaw,

You misunderstood. I was responding to a post immediately before my post which had nothing to do with EK. The Mods or the individual himself have since removed the offending post, but my response is still showing. Hope that clarifies.

Harry,

There is a term out there called "Godwins law", it basically states that is is inevitable that one side in an argument will eventually mention Hitler or one of his deeds (in this case Dunkirk) as their argument runs out of steam.

Now don't get me wrong, I think the movie Dunkirk does an excellent job of telling a story of a generation, in my opinion the greatest generation and in that I completely agree with you that what we are going through amounts to .001 of one percent of what the this particular generation went through.

I believe the movie Dunkirk should be watched alongside Conspiracy (Also with Kenneth Brannagh) and Schlinders list (spelling).
All three movies are highly educational but Harry don't rely on Goodwins law.

I stand by my earlier comments and I will also state that your opinions and insights are most welcome, debate in all its forms is vital.

The fact remains we work for a highly dysfunctional company.

Guys like harry keep the Ek system running.

Lucky they have company guys like you to bend over backwards for management.

I'm sure ek will return the favour when you need something 😂😂😂😂 or you get that one radio call wrong.

Symptomatic of a rudderless ship muddling its way towards the inevitable iceberg...yet again. The IT issues are yet another addition to a list of usually unfeckable things...that EK and its merry band of job protecting oxygen thieving head wobbling idiots have managed to **** up once again.
Its all so terribly predictable, its all so utterly preventable and of course Harry in his usual "wood for the trees" style seeks to minimise the frustration that some feel on the basis that you will get "used" to it.
I suppose Harry could have used better examples, perhaps sudden blindness or accidental amputation? one would have to have to get used to that as well.
In the final analysis...all the issues relating to rostering, corp coms, housing, education etc boil down to the fact that those remaining are in fact better paid Jinglies (a perjorative but apapt description) who in the eyes of their masters should be grateful for the crumbs of existence they allow them to enjoy. Your opinions and feedback are as welcome by management as a bad case of piles caused by too much spicey food..and planting their fat sweaty arses' at Costa a bit too often in their traditional garb. "Hubris today, Hubris tomorrow" will be the new corporate mantra.

Exactly Craggy! better yet, the boss has seen fit to fly the family out to his winter retreat which is located in the country of my wifes birth...and hence we are enjoying an unexpected 3 week tour of a beautiful country. Its the sort of thing he does from time to time that engenders loyalty and gratitude along with a desire to do the best job you can. Come on you Yids...

If your Safari browser keeps reloading

Lads & Gents,
if your Safari browser keeps reloading, try the following:
- open Safari
- go to Safari -> Preferences -> Privacy
- in the top field (Cookies and website data): set / mark "allow from websites I visit"
Worked for me. Reloading stopped.

Regarding access via HDDownloads: it looks that the new address "http://flightcrewportal.emirates.com" is creating some problem, at least on my device.
Switching back to the old "https://groupworld.emirates.com" solved this problem, too.

Regarding access via iPhone - well, quite limited to far, with pulldown menus overlapping basic data, search function not working, etc.

Hope this helped a bit. Fly safe out there !

I thought I would have one more try with the portal before leaving home today.

It still won't download anything so I shall apologise to my crew on behalf of Emirates that, once again, I am unable to brief them as I cannot download any information from the company portal.

Very disappointing but not at all surprising.

How about using the printed hardcopy version that's still available to you as a baseline for your briefing? BTW they don't listen to anything anyway...

Really?

Downroute I usually just give them the approximate flight time and level and they're happy with that! The Shear Rates are often misleading; many times you get a bumpy ride with 1s and 0s and a smooth ride with 9s and 10s

Far more importantly is the expected taxi time 'cos I want my cabin secure before I reach the runway!

And if you (a generic you) don't have enough knowledge of the climate around the network to tell 'em that we'll be passing a belt of potential Cbs at time x into the flight I don't think you should be in the left seat anyway because you're already demonstrating a serious lack of SA!!!

Thanks for the singularly unhelpful and unprofessional reply wk. Is it post colonial inferiority complex or sps that drove your response?

One day you might be in the left hand seat and I hope that if you do make it that you will show more respect and professional courtesy to your crew than you do to your fellow pilots on prune.

This thread is about the tablet, not pre flight briefings and my response was limited to the tablet, not how I work around its shortcomings.

Treat your cabin crew like that and I would be very careful about what you (generic) eat on board.
