Back from a flight I stopped at the little desk just before the escalator and asked the Dubai Police gentleman about the "new rule". He knew nothing of it and then called his supervisor on the phone. His supervisors reply was that it IS allowed for pilots to bring in a cabin bag and flight bag.

What happens if your overnight bag is broken, locks torn off or combo busted? Are they saying you shall not bring a personal bag if yours is broken?

Came in this morning with my non-standard, non-company issue bag. Guy at the bottom of the escalator was trained on red hats. Could have brought an elephant by him. X-Ray… nothing. No Company baggage inspection officer at the transport desk…

Troff,

Was this in addition to your company wheelie and suitcase or as a substitute?

For what its worth I did pop into the customs office near the bag collection and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about when I queried the ruling...

Everybody, quit asking these folks questions. They'll start investigating and sure enough they will start enforcing these inane rules.
