Joining Emirates
Good Day,
I am a 37 year old Chief Pilot of a Bombardier Challenger 601 in Portland, Oregon, USA. I have approximately 7000 hours total time, of which 5000 hours is jet, and 4000 of that is PIC.
After recently visiting Dubai on a flight, I fell in love with the city. After two days of staying in the area, I knew that I want to move there.
At this point, it is my career goal to get a job with Emirates. I just love int'l flying, and there was something about Dubai that really tickled my fancy.
With only corporate flying experience, what is a good next step career wise to get on with Emirates? Will they look to hire me with only corporate experience, or should I join a regional airline in the USA for a few years to build airline experience, while simultaneously having my application into, and updating it, with Emirates? Please, any wisdom and suggestions to get on with Emirates would be very welcomed.
Does Emirates have a hearing test criteria to be met? One of my ears is 100% good, the other has about 50% hearing loss (thank you aviation). Will this be sufficient for Emirates?

Concerning your hearing problem i would be careful. I have a similar one and the constant being sent to a specialist every year is wearing out. In this region they (EK and the GCAA) work with very generic medical tables and if you do not fit in, they send your to a GCAA approved specialist in a blink of a second. Now the quality of those specialists, to remain politically correct, is very widely spread on the Richter scale ..... Plus any pre-existing condition is duly noted around here and any future treatment difficult to obtain.
I would not recommend a move to this region with even a small dent in your medical record.
On another note, i suspect you might also have a eye/reading problem. Considering the other EK threads on this site, i can't fathom any sane colleague applying to EK no more.

I'm not going to say anything about EK, enough information here for you to make up your mind!
As for the medical, they are funny about preexisting issues so might be a problem.
Why not try Execujet, they have a base here, you might slip in quite nicely

Being 37, i.e. 2 years above 35 you are good to go. You will be very welcome here as that is an important criteria. In fact no PIC over the age of 35 has ever bent a jet at EK!

I am a 50 year old Captain of a Airbus A388 in Dubai, Dubai, UAE. I have approximately 22,000 hours total time, of which 15000 hours is jet, and 12,000 of that is PIC.
After recently visiting Portland on a flight, I fell in love with the city. After two days of staying in the area, I knew that I want to move there.
At this point, it is my career goal to get a job with anyone else. I just love fun flying, and there was something about the USA that really tickled my fancy.

I propose you and I simply switch jobs. The 601 and the A380 are almost identical...they go up, they come down and if you're lucky they do so without leaving a trail of debris on the runway. I bet you wear a white shirt and black trousers...hey guess what?...so do I ! Same Same!

OurKing, you got to live Atleast a year in the concrete jungle to feel what it is. And what world are you going to see in a 22hr layover ? Stay where you are.
I'm 35, flying the 777s in the desert and would love to have your place for half the wages. Enough said.

Goal is to have a cadet program of rookies on Cirrus-SR22 to Phenom-100 to A380. Per unidentified sources, they allegedly asked Embraer and Airbus to have cockpit similarity between A380 and Phenom-100.

OurKing, you got to live Atleast a year in the concrete jungle to feel what it is. And what world are you going to see in a 22hr layover ? Stay where you are.
Upon hiring, how long before I'll be able to hold a line flying Dubai to US flights? For example, flight 229 & 230.
I've watched the recruitment videos for Emirates, and it seems like the possibilities at the airline are limitless. Do most who retire from Emirates stay in UAE, or move back to where they're from? Is there a visa issue with staying after retirement?

Who, with half a braincell, would ask for such info, without having read the threads about EK...
Guys being demoted without a reason, no inflation correction since forever, bidding system not existing anymore, never have vacation at the same time as the rest of the family, etc etc.
Castle-dwellers need to come up with something better than this...
