How to put our UAE type raratings on our home country licenses

Hello all,

I have scoured the forum for some accurate information on this, but cannot seem to find any, but I expect it may be a common issue among UAE license holders......

I simple wish to get my UAE type rating (777/787) back onto a UK license.

I currently have an Irish JAR ATPL license which I've got until next year to switch over to EASA before it expires, however I ultimately wish to get a UK issue EASA license and somehow get my UAE rating onto it.

I have read that it may be possible to put the ratings onto the Irish license as part of the change to an irish issue EASA, and then possibly convert the whole lot to UK issue as a paperwork exercise, however I have no first hand information on this, only speculation....

I would be grateful to hear if anyone in a similar situation has achieved this, and how is the best way to go about it please? (Either by PM or by thread as appropriate)

I am in the process of asking the IAA/ UK CAA directly but awaiting a response, just wondering if anyone had the specifics to hand?

Thank you into advance for any help, will be highly appreciated.

Easy as pie,at least with IAA that I did. Just email [email protected], attach copies of your current EASA medical, GCAA license/medical, your latest LPC report and you're on your way. A small fee of couple hundred EUR will incur down the road.

I switched to an IAA EASA because it is so easy to put my GCAA ratings on.

Email them. They will explain all.

To remind the restriction simply do an EASA sim with an EASA examiner at the time it's needed.
Then you can switch control of your EASA license to UK.

I did it a few months ago. The only other thing I would add to lospilotos' post is a GCAA Licence Verification Letter- if you've already registered on the GCAA site (probably when you got your medical) you can apply for it through there- it's free and takes about 2 weeks to process.
I think it cost around EUR295 (mine is IAA/EASA now) and will be a 777/787 rating limited to A6- registrations only (until a check on approved device with approved examiner).

IAA allow it, CAA don't.

Contact Margaret Reddy at the IAA FCL office and she'll make it easy. She'll need scans of your GCAA licence, the LPC card, medical, the LST and type rating test and the most recent LPC reports from your training records on FOIP, plus of course a fee which can be done by credit card over the phone. I suspect that the EASA medical has to be current (I have been keeping mine up to date on trips home), but that is a question to ask Margaret. The type rating is restricted to UAE registered aircraft. That'd be sorted out when you did your LPC with a next employer, so not a worry - the key is to keep the EASA licence from expiring without the cost and hassle of doing your own private LPC every year.

The situation is that the IAA do allow it as do the CAA with some important differences. The IAA will add the rating with a restriction which is that you can only fly UAE registered aircraft. This effectively keeps your licence & IR alive. Every time you do a sim in EK you just forward the paperwork by email to the IAA and they will revalidate it. There is an initial fee but it's free after that.
You can put your rating on your CAA licence but you will need to do an LPC every 12 months in order to keep it valid. It has to be a separate LPC conducted by a UK CAA examiner. For some reason the UK has not adopted the restriction that Ireland have, under EASA.
Not sure what the cheapest option for you will be - depends how long you intend to hang around!

Is it just as easy for the A380 boys? Keep reading 777/787 type rated guys here and I know in my (also EASA) home country, its a bit easier for 777 rated guys.
