Where are the B777 DEC's coming from ?

Just curious if the giys joining EK are retirees from legacy carriers, upgraders , from narrow body commands or from the developing world, eg indonesia , malaysia or Turkey.
With all the negativity here, cant be too many applicants giving up a secure reasonably paid career?

The Crew

Does it really matter where they're coming from? If you're that curious to find out, stand outside classroom 11 in the training college at 8.45am every Friday and ask the 14-16 that are about to start their training each week.

Airlines will get whoever from wherever as long as they pass the selection criteria. From my own experience, whilst the 'exposure' that many of the new joiners have is less comprehensive than previous, they are certainly no less competent. Some different issues for sure but nothing that a bit of polite feedback can't overcome.

Isn't that how we all learned years ago? And, perhaps more importantly.....are still learning!

Reality check

Harry, well said!

I'm one of the many trainers working my a$$ off on the 380 at present. Needless to say, EK is not my "best buddy" at the moment...

That aside, the quality of trainees that come through appears to be good. I have not encountered any specific issues what so ever.

When it comes to B777 DEC's, it'll be like it's allways been; drawn to EK for a plethora of reasons. Myself, I came 13 years ago looking for some adventure. It's been great - mostly. At the moment though, I'm not so sure if I'd recommend it to a good friend.

This could be soooo much better, with just a small change in the way Management runs this outfit!

That's what irks most of us I guess...

👍BOF😎

Danger

The original poster didn't ask or state anything about the standard of DECs!

He simply asked where are they coming from?

I don't think there are that many joining to define a particular pattern. There was one recently from Malaysian, several months ago one from Aeroflot. Last year one from Ryanair.

As I said, if he's that desperate to find out, go to the training college.

WOW, Birdieonfirst.....That sounds like a ringing endorsement of Emirates compared to 99% of the other posts.....

Harry you were telling me a few weeks ago that the new recruits couldn't even land. I guess you've changed idea on that one... Different thread, different opinion..

Funnily enough the background seems to change over several months and recently a larger number of people have joined with more experience than say 6 months ago. That at least is my perception. Several from Jet 2 in UK, 3 from SA (Mango etc) and a few more from various locals including one or two from Corporate on latest batch. 6 months ago it was wall to wall Ryanair. Quite a few ex Malaysian joining too. All have jet time.

Some of the younger guys are very sharp & keen to learn but may lack the finesse and experience in other areas. For example, a lot that come from RJ or 737 tend to over control when hand flying. The 777 is not designed to be flown with such heavy hands. Give them an FMC to work through and it's done in seconds........

Now, that would have been an informative and polite first response, Harry. Thank you.

Wasn't there an exodus to Jet 2 or was it just one guy?!
There is definitely more than one guy going to J2... I know of two personally and thats within 200m of my house! There is clearly going to be a problem very soon. Upgrades delayed or cancelled, deliveries deferred and recruitment woes. We all saw it coming and we all knew the reason, refusal by those in charge to concede that the lemon has been squeezed too hard. Reputations take years to build and no time at all to destroy. I don't blame the company for wanting Emiratisation but at what cost? With the Airline representing such a large percentage of Dubai's GDP the attitude and management of the company has been reckless. We are all now being asked to work harder and be more flexible whilst min experience targets and internal safeguards are lowered or removed to try and plug the deficit.

It really is a shame that a brand like ours can go from being swiss chocolates to jelly beans ( including the pay )
