I thought we were short of crew? Upgrades or DEC's can't be delayed too long?

46 deliveries of B77W's remaining with a further 20 options.....

Wife had enough, just applied to two airlines, forced move is the final straw, Hopefully this time next year, sat in our home enjoying family friends and no online learning, crap emails and propaganda. The whole Middle East is trying to move to Europe, so why is a European still here?

Possibly because the whole of the Middle East is in fact now in Europe, as you just alluded too!!!

Try as it might the Middle East is a far cry from Europe despite everything going on now.
Labour law, property rights and civilian rule are just some of the niceties of Europe. After all these refuges are not trying to sneak into Saudia Arabia, Jordan or the UAE which are all much closer and a safer passage to get to. I wonder why?
On the thread Emirates will not park airplanes, they will do whatever's it takes to run the airline and if that includes lowering their standards for new hires, not awarding vacation and flying 110 hrs a month you can guarantee they will do that with more draconian measures to come.

No no Habibi, they are there merely for deferred maintenance! deferred maintenance I tell you! just like the new build 380's at finkenwerder that also need deferred maintenance.

We should be seeing less tech log entries suggesting that the aircraft exterior is dirty and needs a wash!

I heard that the HR is working 24/7 to hire more pilots but still they can´t get enough.

What surprise me the most is that this situation is coming from far, I have 4 friends working in EK and they have been complaining about too much flying/duty for months if not years, so someone has not been doing a good planning.

Do you think this is going to improve or EK will have more problems to crew the increasing number or flights/planes?? I know the situation with pilots is very tense and many are reaching the breaking point.

Any recruit starting the process now won't be on the line till June next year...especially if it's a turbo prop guy, as they will have to do a significantly longer course.

That's a huge gap to fill when the system is already at breaking point, and more aircraft are delivered every month. How many guys do you think will leave before then, having simply had enough?

Management say "rosters will remain tight until mid next year"

They've been saying that for years. The numbers simply don't add up, but TCAS and co will be the last to admit that it's unworkable, or to accept any blame for the current crisis. "What crisis?" No problems with recruitment apparently.

At the risk of abuse...this is just my opinion.

If they had treated the pilots they have ( or used to have) fairly, without raising flying hours to ridiculous levels, without changing T and C s at the drop of the hat ( because they can), without employing people on the third floor who live for handing out Final Warnings, ( but in my HO , actually struggle to fly themselves, that is why they love their desk so much), if they has just run a normal company, that actually liked it's staff, there would be no problem.

And yes, they are rare, but companies that value their staff, still do exist.

Anyway, just mt thoughts.

You were here before the focus was on $$$, so you saw the change. It's a shame EK could have been great .

This is completely unscientific, but I'll throw it out anyway. Of the last 15 FO's I have flown with ALL, except one, are planning on leaving. One has a foot out the door with his wife as soon as his bond expires - not turning back. The rest are all looking at options. Two, at 3.5-4 years say they are waiting for the upgrade (unless it really stops for more than 6 months) with plans to get the min. requirements to go elsewhere.

Of the large group I know (primarily captains) 2 have left and the rest (about 25 or so ) all have plans to leave in ranges of 1- 5 years. Kids in school and other issues are keeping some here a bit longer. All, to a man, are fed up!

As I said, all anec***al and, I am sure, someone will jump in say they love it here etc etc etc. But the fact is people are leaving and more will leave.

Do I think it will change? Nope! The company doesn't care and will simply continue to lower the conditions and, at the same time, the requirements. Until it finally does break due to lack of crew or, worse, and accident.

Speaking for many I am sure..."I am not here because I want to be"..

So why not move on? Kids at school into exam years (stability), license lapsed back in Europe and hard to re-instate? Busted from Capt to FO when moving to a big company or changing to a smaller company? In the smaller company the Capt posn is where TC's are no doubt better but the pay won't help the mortgage or kids schooling bills as DXB drained people dry, food for eg is 5x the price back home, current financial commitments have to be met.

There are many reasons why people aren't moving on, there is only 1 answer I am pretty sure as to the pilots choice, they WOULD consider moving on if it was an easier option! Hence people hang around myself included but like many, our end goals are a defined target now and everyday that target is getting closer.

Heard a great one recently of a guy doing his sim check part of the interview process! He was asked to do a radial intercept but instead started doing a few turns, when asked by the instructor what he was doing, he stated "I have a Qatar interview in a few days and I'm just getting some practice in"
Classic!!!

Sops good companies still not only exist but thrive. These are the companies that treat their staff right, pay them accordingly and empower them to make their companies great. Their moral is sky high and employees have a love and pride for where they work. These same employees will bend over backwards for the company and when I say bend over this is not in the same way an Emirates employee bends over and takes it from the company. The employee at a great company willingly bends over while an Emirates employee is forced to bend over and take it where the sun don't shine all without any say in the matter or KY jelly.
It is just a matter of days for me and I am so exicited. Thank you all of you for the kind PMs. I will put a reccomendation in at Delta for all of you when I finished trainning. Words can not express what a difference in the two companies it has been so far. These two enities might be over 180 degrees out of kilter if that is possible. A great airline from a total crap one. I agree EK could have been better but it could never be a great airline because we all know who is running the ship. Good luck to everyone and I hope it gets better.
