QR - First Officer Fast Track to Command -> Closed

Just had an email informing me that the fast track to command position I applied for and had been in invited for an interview to, has closed.

I can still apply for a regular FO position though...

Anyone else had the email?

Can anyone at QR give me an idea how long the wait for command may be?

From what I've concluded from the posts by pilots working in the ME, its no surprise this happened to you.

There has been a shift in focus inside the company to promoting from within.
The DEC tap has been turned off for now and emphasis placed on internal upgrades. As it should be. I have found a lot of the DECs to be extremely lacking. Internal promotions make much better Captains.

Time to upgrade is still around 36 months after final line check.

Maybe because those DEC had no time on type when they joined...dont worry they will catch up with your exceptional level before you know it

36 month from getting checked on the line as an FO to upgrade??

I too am interested specifically how long on the Boeing side can a new FO expect an upgrade (given he meets the requirements)...

Would also like to know what are the requirements.

I have heard different things... Some saying 3-5 years.... But I have also heard from 5-8 year FO's still without upgrade at Qatar.

QR indeed does do fast track for qualified candidates. I had 1400 wide body PIC and about 10K total time, but not the 2000 wide body PIC required for DEC on the B777, so I was hired as FO on the B777 in 2012. Not much later than two years after final line check I was offered command, which was slightly more than 3 years from DOH to LST very recently for command on the B777. And I did not pester them, they came to me. Three years went by fast, and if you show up for work on time here and don't bother anyone, the paycheck is good and it is on time, and the people are good to work with. I've worked for worse outfits I can tell you.

QR - First Officer Fast Track to Command -> Closed

Thanks for sharing your info dc10....
I just wondering how is it the treatment of the company toward the first officers?
Is it true that all the rumours about high rates of firing/punishment?
I hope it's not true unless you're really causing troubles or have attitude problems but not for silly things....
I believe QR is improving to make things better for pilots conditions and living over there....

QR has definitely changed to the better in the past few years, with a more relaxed attitude to training. There is now an emphasis on actual training, as opposed to just checking, with extra training available for those who happen to have a bad day in the sim.

The number of F/Os doing command training, while not huge, is increasing and will definitely get a boost from the ban on DEC recruitment.

Add possibly better rostering (although the A320 pilots might not agree here), recent increases in salary and housing allowance, the introduction of a contributed provident fund and things are at least heading in the right direction.

The perpetual drawback with QR is Doha itself. Doha just tests your patience every day. Without a doubt Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Bahrain are nicer places to live.

What's wrong de facto, have your FO's been looking at you with that
"What the hell are you doing" look on their face ?

Like you said, here's hoping you stop lacking real soon.

Problem is, they keep on changing the goal post, latest requirements for command upgrade....... 4000 hours jet time in an airline enviroment

Fast track to command ...... reserved

so the carrot just gets moved further ahead, this donkey has had enough

oh and ... when u try to talk to management about this, its the standard middle east response.... if you dont like it leave!

I have heard from many that they are trying to upgrade from within company vs using Decs. While this is probably true It will cause hiring to slow but probably impossible to grow at 20 percent per year and not use DECs.
Only so many people are ready and hiring from within increases training
