EK - Buy Your Uniforms Here

Well, I think we've seen it all now. We now have the ability to purchase additional uniform items (shirts etc) from EK (at cost no less).

This is beginning to sound more like some of the low(er) cost carriers out there.

I for one, will be wearing the uniform until the mandated, company paid, replacement time - regardless of how the shirts, jackets etc. look.

I am sure though, that there will be those who will gladly, shore up the company's bottom line...104dhs for a shirt !!! Seriously !!!

If I've paid for it can I then eat in public while wearing it? Just wondering!!

Just keep taking it to that hopeless laundry service ! you will look like a hobo in no time ! May get a itch from our Ghetto CC

I agree , I will wait until they give me new clothing ! o wait , its my only off day and its on a Monday , I believe we cannot get clothes on a Monday !

They never ever have shirts anyway !

I will keep sucking down double lattes in uniform , making us work 95 hrs a month , was suppose to be only for a few months according to AS and we would be back on 78 hrs , 3 years later ..

yeah… what a joke.

Or you could bid for BKK layovers and get tailored quality shirts for next to nothing. At over 100dhs/shirt, clearly there is a profit made, and from that profit we will see a share. So get all your friends to buy extra stuff!!! Now we can be like the CC selling duty-free on board...

What a joke exactly. Looks like we are slowly drifting to the Ryanair sort of deal. Next is the bottle of water and eventually your recurrent every 6 month.....

100 dirhams for a shirt is a bargain....unless it's crap.

These ones are great:

BKK tailors

On the subject of BKK tailors, anyone got any contacts as I have BKK later and need to replace a shirt that I must've left in a hotel somewhere? Doh!! Would rather give the dosh to them than put it in EK's pocket.

Far be it for me to interject with some balance here, but recently I had cause to need a replacement shirt or 2. A quick email, followed by a visit to the said uniform store with old (damaged in the line of duty) shirt(s) and hey presto, replacements provided on the spot, at no charge.
Where is the problem with that?
More of a problem are those pesky name badges, my one appears to want to stab me at random intervals…..

Legacy Carrier - Uniform Standards

Balance at last !

A "Replacement" Item (due to Natural Wear and Tear) is quite a different thing from an "Additional" item.

Open to correction, my understanding is that Legacy Airlines around this planet pay for their employees uniform, and subsequent "replacements", and I am sure Emirates is no different.

If an EMPLOYEE of a legacy carrier is now expected to pay for "Replacement" uniform items, it is therefore a Legacy Carrier no more !

My two cents !

A real drama queen statement! This is about EXTRA kit that YOU may WISH to buy... Not replacement kit; of which there is an ENTITLEMENT provided by the company at (hopefully) timely intervals

Get a grip..........................

I think the point might possibly be, Knight, that they in the company are fishing around for extra income by letting you know you can buy extra (as you correctly pointed out) items of gear.

If someone relatively new (maybe even ex Ryanair or Easyjet who's used to paying for everything) gets the wrong idea and buys new shirts instead of one-for-one-ing the issue stuff then they won't mind at all. And maybe, just maybe this is the thin end of yet another un-lubed wedge you can feel nudging around your posterior. Wouldn't be the first would it?

Rose tinted glasses and all that, WK?

You've been quiet lately, anyway, been away on vacation? Half your luck...

The question is, how do you fly a 92 hour roster on 5 shirts, especially when the Butlers keep losing them, or don't have them ready.
Answer from management, buy extra's at your own cost.
Kwality, that is

Well, if Butlers keep losing them and you're struggling to manage your decreasing 5 shirts, how about doing what most of us do, wash and iron your own. Dry cleaning is not compulsory and if the wife's too busy and you're too tired, ask the maid nicely!

C'mon, lets get real here. When you read posts like that, is it any wonder pilots have such a sad reputation as whingers and moaners!

RE, the legacies paying for everything or providing. I can name two legacies in the US that pilots pay for EVERYTHING from shoes to hats to ties to belts. No replacements, no wear and tear...you're on your own.

BA give a similar issue to EK and then you can buy extra should you wish. Can't see the problem myself.

There is no problem it's just another pathetic moan to make us look like a bunch of spoilt brats. Obviously 3 pairs of trousers 2 jackets 2 ties 2 sets of stripes 5 shirts which are replaced every 18 months are not enough for some people.
BYMONEK is right maybe wash the shirts yourself at least you know they are clean unlike being sent to a Butlers sweatshop.

According to the last email they won't clean your shirts unless they're Pacific Brand so they force you to buy from the company store.

The policy was not thought out (Like other policies) as 5 shirts doesn't cover the 6 day pairings with enough time to have the shirts cleaned in between.

Well, I see nothing wrong with giving you the option to buy optional replacements or add ons (apart from the wear and tear replacements).

My only complain on uniform is the quality of some of the stuff. My name is almost erased from the badge and it's been less than 1 year?

We are all supposed to look the same (that's one of the objectives of having a uniform) so why the company will support (by offering to launder) pieces that are not part of it?

Show me a pairing that requires more than 5 shirts. Even on 418 you get by with 5 shirts as the SYD-CHC-SYD is a turnaround.

Ok, so you found one pairing that requires 6 shirts. So how often do you get that? Just have one cleaned at the hotel for a couple of DHS and in that case claim it back if you are that thight on the money.
