Turkish Airlines..the exodus begins!
Latest rumor is that many from all ranks and fleets are about to leave or screening with other operators.
THY poor attitude towards expat, questionable professional environment, widespread unmotivated arrogance, salaries far from international standards due the unstoppable sinking of currency fraudulent recruitment practices and discrimination towards expat FOs, slavery style rosters on narrow body with no commuting options, vexatious procedure for sick leave ( a clear violation of human rights), risible leave allocation, total lack of benefits or even of any cooperation on non professional related , logistical and personal issues, in concert with the massive demand for experienced captains and FOs from more reliable. transparent and progressive operators, now even in Europe, are to be mentioned among the causes
Their goal is anyway now clear. Exploit expat to their advantage in order to gain time to prepare for full Turkizations in the shortest term possible.Your permanent contract is toilet paper. Add to this grim picture the political turmoil that is revealing the real nature of the now evidently corrupt Islamofascist government of which THY is expression and the future instability and you have a clear picture of the reasons not to consider Turk Hava Yollary as your employer ( or airlines of choice) if you were just thinking about it...

If people vote with their feet, things will sort themselves out, if not, they won't.
It's not really just exploiting the expats, the contract validity, sick leave procedures, slavelike rosterings, no upgrading of non-unis etc also applies for the "locals".

There are no Turkish FO or Captain without degree in THY beside the air force CRM experts. They bypassed this requirement to fill seat and did not tell candidates and agencies about its existence just to bring it up afterward conveniently to screw them.
They are continuously bending the rules at their advantage. Many are about to show them the finger.

On the FO side things are starting to get better every day apart from the Lira situation (salary is still quite good for an FO). Lots of guys are getting upgraded to the wide body fleets (no, they don't have to pay anything those rumours are NOT true) and for the guys with the uni degree they don't have to go to Ankara to get it translated etc etc...
The roster is really more stable than a year ago and most of the guys are flying 70-80 hours maximum.
Lots of new and young captains are joining the narrow body fleet with a good attitude, english level and CRM and the really old horrible ones are being phased out slowly and there are really not that many left.
Things are getting better step by step, day by day.
Life is far from being perfect here but most guys are quite happy, there is still much to do but rome wasn't built on one day
In general most guys that I speak to are happy, however home is where the heart is so off course people would take the chance to go home to Europe (Turkey is definitely not EUROPE, whatever they say ).

That post is from about 9 months ago mr detective....
Is it that bad to ask about conditions at another company closer to home ?
Seriously, how low can you go ?
I guess some of you have nothing better to do !
Anyways it was just my two cents, enjoy being sour over THY all the time.
I'm happy here (most of the time, as not everything is perfect) and this is my last post regarding this topic.
I already wasted more than enough time on this.
If anyone has any serious questions about life in THY they can write me a PM.

Surely someone who is as miserable as you living and working in Turkey must be one of those many.

Why on earth will you just talk about "rumor that many from all ranks and fleets are about to leave or screening with other operators" and avoid saying that a bunch of yabancis are starting 777 course now (upgrading from 737 fleet)?
Most of them upgrading after 1 year in the company.
Unexplained sudden amnesia?

Upgrading...that is not an upgrade your (low) salary will be the same. But just a candy to keep you here to warm the seat while the ready the new generation of local scientists after which your work permit will not be renewed due to some new DGAC quotas.
Sorry you did not get hired by EK...they are just using you

I don't know what the swine thinks but I know 33% of my salary has gone along with a substantial amount of savings, naively kept in TL.
If you compare with some small charter German operator salary might look appealing but compared to same league carriers that is not the case.
Basic salary for an FO is now 3900 euro or 11900 TL for narrow body CPT 5600 Euro and for a wide body captains around 7000. That is at least 30%less of what other carriers in the ME offer net of free housing and other substantial benefits tha THY does not offer. EU carrier gross salaries are not even comparable standing at almost + 100% and + 30 to 40 % on net
I admit that is not THY fault but I fail to see how will they retain pilots if not inexperienced young FO getting wet to get on a 777 if they don't do something about it. Many are looking around that is a fact I know for sure. There is definitely a shortage of qualified experienced pilots and the salary will have to raise.
Airlines have plenty of passengers these days -- they just need pilots- Nikkei Asian Review

I m amazed they got guys changing seat to the 777. Really bad career move in my opinion. F/O hours on 777 makes your next career move what exactly????
Captain upgrade 777 as a foreigner in THY about as likely as Turkey joining the EU in our lifetime.

Provided we are professionals and we are here to act a s such I can just say that there could have been probably a 1000 better way to integrate expat in THY , whichever the reason they were needed. I unfortunately I have to share the feeling that we are just considered disposable instruments of their grand plan until proven wrong ( but I already set the deadline )

I think some ex-pat Captains are definitely leaving from what I hear. Not Turkish airlines fault about the lira but I guess they'll have to remain competitive to attract and retain the expats if they want a high standard of operation.
