Rub it in Ek's noses... LOL. I actually got a good chuckle from that comment. That return to stand comment was priceless!! As was the not buddy enough ofr anything bigger.

Let's be honest here... I have 3 friends working at QR and notta one is happy. In fact all three, continuously ask if there is any chance they can jump ship to EK.

As for the 787 these days... not much to brag about these days. Novelty has worn off.. and the repetitive battery issues haven't helped. I honestly don't give it a second glance whenever it taxi's by. Takes the FO to say something before I even realize it. Although I'm sure the technology on it quite nice, it looks like a mini 767.

EXample of a 787 Roster

Average Roster is 4-5 trips/month with a few stbys and around 12-15 OFF/REST.

Example would be:

2. LHR-DOH
3. REST
4. OFF
5. OFF
6. DOH-OSL
7. OSL-DOH
8. OFF
9. STBY
10. STBY
11. STBY
12. OFF
13. OFF
14. OFF
15. OFF
16. DOH-BRU
17. BRU-DOH
18. STBY
19. STBY
20. OFF
21. REST
22. DOH-ZRH
23. ZRH-DOH
24. DOH-DXB-DOH
25. STBY
26. STBY
27. OFF
28. OFF
29. OFF
30. OFF
31. OFF

Average is about 50hrs/month for Capts and FOs. Not called very often from STBYs.

Apparently the rule of MAX 10 days off / month does not apply to everybody!
Interesting...

It looks a very good quality of life to me, but im not sure about the money, maybe 777 makes more money due to flight time???

What are the good/bad between 777 and 787 fleet?

Does 787 stars to fly to NAmerica in a near future? more flight time= money
Whats 787 network for the future?
Would be a good move going from 777 to 787?? fleet under construction? seniority fleet? been a flight instructor? mix fleet 777/787 ???

Tks!

Iron

If you would have 3 babies + wife, you wouldn't even have to think what to do...... they will do it for you!

It depends on your profile, singles guys likes to fly a lot and not to many off days at DOH, I guess........

First a question. Can anyone confirm if the current QR 787s include separate crew rest bunks? Someone on this forum suggested earlier that was not the case - and that could obviously impact how the 787 is used in terms of routes, flight times, etc.

Seems that at this point, the QR 787s are assigned to Indian, Gulf and Western Europe routes. Scandi, UK (including EDI added this summer), BRU, FRA, MUC, ZRH so far with more Euro destinations likely coming... So, if you are looking to fly worldwide including North & South America and Asia, the 777 (both the pax and freighter versions) would be the better choice if you actually had the choice to make. If you don't want the jet lag and would prefer shorter flights, perhaps the 787 is preferable. Again, applicants may not get a choice. That said, with a minimum of 30 787s on order, who knows where future orders will be placed and whether they will fly further afield.... I imagine that if you are from Western Europe and you want to beat the blazing Doha heat in the summer, some time visiting family and friends in cooler Scandi or Scotland on layovers would be welcome and the 787 might fit better given the current route structure (subject to change)... Obviously many variables and preferences to consider. Personally, either choice would be great in my opinion.

It will be interesting to see how the upcoming A350 (80+ firm orders!) is integrated into the long-haul route planning.

As long as I know QR 787 doesnt have crew rest bunks, but remember that in some countries and if aviation authority approve it, you can block 2 business sites and use it as a Crew Rest.

On the other hand, 787 with a 8000miles range is not designed and shouldnt be used for 5/6 hours flights, but remember that this is a brand new aircraft on test!!! so maybe in the future will do long haul routes as it was designed for, but with 250 pax.( low demand routes)

777/787 mix fleet?

Just time will set 787 where has to be.........or not!

The reliability of the 787 should improve drastically before even thinking of sending this aircraft on the other side of the world...

There speaks a professional telling the truth...sadly he is unlikely to be listened to as he is not charging his airline mega bucks for his thoughts.
