Seeing the development in Turkey ,i truly believe they will.
I have some good friends there,who are happy with the working environment and the living standard in Istanbul,but of course first u need to get hired,and i believe somebody here was denied and is still bleeding...

Yes I do agree they have an tarnished safety record in the past. Hopefully this will improve with more expats. I don't think Turks are bad pilots. With the right training and mindset, KSA - Knowledge, Skills and Attitude, they will improve immensely. I have bad pilots and good pilots from any country. The problem is not the individual. It's is more likely to be a corporate culture issue. The invisible transportation of military rank and culture into a non military invironment. When the FO out ranks the captain, and it is silently and mutually accepted, then you have a serious problem. Eventually these senior pilots will will either retire or have to learn new tricks. I don't work for them, butmI hear things are different on the long haul fleets. Gule Gule

Yanbancypilot: I concur, absolutely. Just checked Wiki: 14 fatal accidents since 1959 is a number that speaks for itself. That's one every 4 years, the last one was in 2009. Waiting for incoming...

I heard from a Turkish person in the travel industry who claims to be connected with the Turkish Ministry of transport that Turkish Airlines is planning to buy Olympic Airways, LOT, and possibly TAP. This sounds a little far fetched, although I believe they are set for, and will achieve, major expansion.

Turkish Airlines has officially submitted a proposal to buy out Greek carrier Olympic Air, according to recent Turkish media reports. Turkish newspaper Zaman said the plan provides for Olympic Air to retain its brand, flight operations, fleet and staff for at least two years. However, at the end of two years the Greek airline would be fully absorbed by Turkish Airlines.
Temel Kotil, chief executive officer of Turkish Airlines, told Zaman that their offer is 19 million euros higher than Aegean’s. An executive at Olympic Air has allegedly confirmed this information.
Reports also mention that added that Turkish Airlines – after buying out Olympic Air – plans to file a takeover bid for rival Greek carrier Aegean Airlines at a later date.

With a projected fleet like that they will need a much bigger airport....
What is the status of the new Istanbul airport with something like 6-7 runways? Will it happen? What about inevitable delays like the ones seen in Berlin and Doha?

Actually many airlines in China exceed 30K per month but only twice per year as the semi-annual bonus payment plus the base salary exceed 30K. This is the price required to recruit/retain experienced pilots in the Middle Kingdom. Many though do exceed 20K per month without the bonus every month.
