Shipping your pet from US to Dubai...
Hey all,
We're planning on moving to DXB early 2014, and we're trying to do our research on taking our pet over with us. I'm basically looking for tips, any kind of heads up, advice and current experiences from families that have done the jump to Dubai and have decided to take their pets with them. The dog is a Lhasa Apso, 2.5 years old and 19lbs.
Heres a few questions,
1) Dubai does require an Import Permit that needs to be requested in Dubai and shipped back to US to the pet shipping agent. Does anybody know where in Dubai to request this permit?
2) Any recommendations on pet shipping companies? Google throws tons of results, but Im looking mostly for personal experience here...
3) Im finding out now that UAE wont take animals flying in the cabin or as checked baggage, they have to be shipped as cargo. Do any of you know about airlines that will take your pet as cargo but wont force you to go through a third party agent (who basically overprices you for the same service the airline will do?)
Thanks for the input.

DKC have a good reputation here, and they are very helpful, http://http://www.americanvet.ae/sit...ngPetsFAQs.pml are also quite good, many to choose from and all will give you advice.
Good luck with the paperwork. ;-)

Good info, thanks!
My biggest issue here now it seems, most airlines wont let me do it myself, Lufthansa, Air France, American, Etc. At least from the ones that fly out of MIA. They push hard to force me through an "agent" that will do the paperwork and take my dog to the Airline's Cargo offices to be sent away.
I will definitely google DKC and read up on them...
Thx!

Google Urban Tails Pet Resort Dubai.
They have a good reputation too for dealing with these things. We have used them a lot for boarding of our cats.
The owner is a very friendly Irish girl called Aideen.

You're better off using one of the agents mentioned above vs doing it yourself. They specialize in it and know all the pitfalls.
Use a Dubai based agent, and they will forward you their preferred agent on your side. It will cost extra but will save you heaps of running around. They would also have a preferred airline that has a good track record of shipping pets.
We followed this route and weren't disappointed.

standing by for incoming flak
Is it fair to bring a pet to UAE.
Fair on the animal not on the owner.
How long is the quarantine inbound as well as the eventual outbound.
I understand from friends that adopted locally, the experience of a relocation in UAE, forced the animals to a 6 month in a foster home. Very expensive.
I appreciate that for some people a pet is a child substitute, but please just think about the climate, temperature, as well as cultural understanding for "animals".
Coat is on, ready for tin hat.

No outgoing flak. All good points.
We have gone through those items and decided to carry on. Now we're into deciding the "shipping" process.
I will definitely contact the companies listed above. Thanks to all for the input.
