Question Emirates Aviation College

Hi,

I am looking for some advice from you all. I just completed high school recently, and I am interested in aviation (Aeronautical engineering or something similar)

Basically, I am looking for your opinion on emirates aviation college. I don't have any friends working in aviation field. I'd like to know your opinion on career opportunities and placements from this college. I am going to visit the college in a few days. Since you all have experience, your opinion will be helpful for me to make a decision. I searched little on the forum, didn't find much about what I am looking for, and those posts were old.

Thanks

It depends on what you want to do. I am a former student.. i can tell you all inside out....

let me know what course you want to do....sadly, many students who want to join EAC dont know what they are getting in..and what course is best for their aims..so tell me your aims...like where do u want to work??some of the aims are:
aircraft mechanic, technican and licensed aircraft engineer...
airline planning engineer
airline quality assurance
technical service engineers
airline operations
flight dispatcher/ flight operations officer

or you want to go into manufacturing...

there are loads of seniors here who will advise you on this...once you have decided that then its best to decide the course...

well most of the courses will give u scope of more than one field...

aaanndd..let me tell you..i dont have a job now... ...and please REMEMBERRRRR....STUDYING IN EAC HAS NO ADVANTAGE FOR YOU IN GETTING A JOB IN EMIRATES...DONT BELIEVE THE TEACHERS IN THIS....No one will help u extra in getting a job anywhere...u need good skills and luck...

do a bit of research..and..

best of luck

Like you said, even I am not sure what "exactly" i wan't to do. I prefer more physics n math based work, related to aircraft design / components; rather than pilot etc;. I prefer to work in aircraft manufacturing company, not in a commercial airline like EK. I am not sure if this will help you get an idea for whats best for me; I have above 90% in highschool, with good grades in science subjects and I am willing to study and work hard.
I was thinking to go for aeronautical engineering, and comparing it with aerospace too..

About the job in emirates part.. my frnd who inquired abt the EAC 3 years ago said me that, EAC ppl said after some years of study, depending on the marks they have more chance for job in emirates etc;..

Thanks for the quick response..

glad to know you are one step ahead... ..btw, marks and studying in EAC doesnt help you getting in emriates as I know guys who hav distinction grades and are still jobless and also know "just pass" guys working in emirates and adat...its all about reference, luck and how u sell ureself...

if you want to go into manufacturing , then I would suggest you doing a degree in Aerospace Engineering.....but i would not advise you to do it the HND route..as you will have to do 2 years here, then 2 years in UK...

The degree given at EAC is Aerospace TECHNOLOGY and not Aerospace ENGINEERING...Aerospace Engineering is usually a Chartered Engineering course and it is rated higher...Aerospace Technology is a Incorperated Engineering course which is not as useful......Airbus hires Charted Engineering graduates only in its graduate scheme. (this was the case untill 2010, i am not updated about the 2011 graduate scheme)..

with a bachelors in aerospace engineering you also have a choice of getting back to airline if you want, as some Airliners hire Aerospace Engineers as Technical Service Engineers.

If you want to get into manufacturing then it is better if you do your degree from abroad...

Please let me know if you have a choice of going abroad as with a scholarship it will be cheaper for you to study abroad..

do research about the things i have mentioned here as it may help you read and gain more info on things...

About studying abroad... can you tell me more information about learning abroad; which college would you recommend ? (Which gives more chances for jobs etc). I checked with EAC scholarship, I need minimum 95% in my last year of education, I have 94%.
I am doing some research on the information, most of the results I see are either irrelevant or out dated.
I was thinking about aeronautical engineering, the career opportunities.. whats your opinion on that ?

I think this information will help others also in search of it..
Thanks

I dint do the aeronautical engineering course at EAC, but I know that it is pathetic...I know some guys who dropped that course to join the HND in Aerospace course half way through....if you are paying so much, dont expect world class teaching from EAC...there are teachers i know who dont speak proper English while in teaching you have to be a master in your language and oratory...

If you ask me which is the best uni to do your aerospace engineering course and be more employable, I would suggest University of Manchester as it is really good and it has got a Rolls Royce research facility as well...any university you go into, make sure they have the resources to teach you well...as compared to eac, which as only 2-3 proper workshops and that too with not so amazing resources...I have seen average uni's like Kingston university in UK and it has got a simulator and an aircraft to work on and what not...and they do many other courses as well..EAC has only 1 wind tunnel which they really fear to operate while another average uni like uni of Hertfordshire in UK has got at least 4 wind tunnels and the smallest one is double the size of the one in EAC....and that uni is much cheaper, and with ure grades you might get a scholarship...(as an aerospace student, wind tunnel testing is in every step you take)

i dont know about universities in canada, US, Austrailia...because I haven't been there..there are loads of forums online and loads of helpful stuff...please not that, if you are planning abroad then you are a little late for September 2011...but better late then never....go for it....

i would never advise you to do aeronautical engineering from EAC.....I can assure you its hell bad and I can give you contacts of guys who have shifted from Aeronautical engineering course to HND in aerospace..they might help you a bit..I can pm you their number and u can take my name as reference to ask them why did they shift...

regards

hey ashoo89,
il be glad if you help me out. i have completed HND(3yrs) in aircraft maintenance engineering(mechanical). now i am not actualy interested in line maintenance.its too heavy on my part.now i feel like wasting my years doing it
i have some experience in working in quality control department of a small aviation firm.and would prefer continuing working in same.but in an large scale airline if i need a job in quality assurance or planning department,i need a degree.
now i am planning for further studies.but it should help me getting a job in quality assurance or planning department.
i am interested in top up degree of aviation management provided by EAC,or the aerospace technology degree. which is a better a option? and will i be able to find a suitable job after completion,or shall i be placed through campus?
and can you please tell me the difference between airline planning engineer and airline quality assurance?

for GCC nationals and Middle East residents there is an option with AAG UAE and Air Arabia they offer guaranteed 1500 hrs of flying on A320 as First Officer with full pay under the MPL course.

Word of caution for those budding pilots out there.

The Emirates training college ab initio pilot training is in no way related to Emirates Airlines other than it is owned by the same people. The rationale behind you signing up for this expensive 100,000 pound course is that you'll then have a job lined up on the B777 with 200 hours under your belt. That is most definitely NOT going to happen. The only people who can achieve this are Emirati Nationals and their course is completely different. It's free for a start and requires comprehensive selection tests beforehand.

There are cheaper and in my opinion far more established and better qualified training establishments that you should consider for commercial pilot training. Once completed, you'll still have to get a job flying regional/low cost operations before considering Emirates as a direct entry pilot. Minimum hours is, I believe, 2000 jet hours? Perhaps someone can clarify that last point.

In any event, do not believe it if someone at the training college says it's a door into Emirates. It's not!

Good luck in your choices and do lots and lots of research, it will pay off in the long run. Learning to fly is not cheap.

Yeah Harry it's 4000 total time of with 2000 hours jet, OR 2500 hours on jet. Jet means modern "class cockpit" multi-crew, multi engine jet (in practical terms Boeing or Airbus)

Stay well away from the MPL program. Strong rumour that at least one major European airline is about to drop it in favour of a real licence i.e. ATPL. It's an experiment which looks like it's failing.

Hi there! I am currently studying BBA in Aviation Management in EAU, but I do know people who are studying HND in Business Management. As far as I know, there are A LOT of assignments to do + tests here and there, but it should be fine for you if you prepare yourself and keep on track with your professors and classmates. The people in the uni in general are extremely nice, so you won't have trouble ''fitting in'' or meeting new people. If you have anymore questions, let me know.
