Not strange to believe this story. Few years ago, a video was leaked to the world showing the sadist brother of the UAE ruler torturing An Afghani grain trader. Also, few weeks ago, UAE sent its forces to Bahrain to crackdown Bahrainis demanding for their rights. I recall in 1970s when Saddam reached the power, UAE started to arrest some Iraqis and send them to Iraq for Saddam to liquidate them. That happened to an Iraqi family I know them in person, where a pressure from Amnesty International and British government to release few late cases.
UAE rulers built good infrastructures and made their country a hub for prostitution, but forgot to build and reform their brains! A tribal person always uses his muscle in solving problems with another person.

I personally saw Qatari police giving a disruptive (British) pax a really good beating after we'd called them to handle the guy on landing (normal drunken idiot / smoking in toilet episode).
They threw him on the galley floor and one copper went really crazy for a few seconds, yelling in arabic and putting his boot in before throwing him down the very tall A330 stairs, he just rolled all the way to the bottom. Yep the guy was an idiot but jeezus I felt pretty sorry for him at that moment.
It will be very interesting to see how they handle the football world cup

I seem to think some of you are forgetting the UAE is third world. Nothing more.
However I do admire the way the police there handle the acts of yobbos etc. The cops there could teach the PC brigade in the EU in general a thing or two about discipline.

Story is the perp in question tried to throw a house keeper out of his hotel window. I think that's reasonable grounds for calling the police. He was found to be high on weed and alcohol. Sad story but is anyone surprised??
According to the "Latest" reports I have seen. The guy tried to throw the maid over one of the internal balconies in the Burj Al Arab (You will know what I mean if you have been there). The drugs were found in his blood, which could mean he legally smoked a spliff in Amsterdam, not UAE months past.They legally serve booze in the Burj as well 
No matter, if he did get a beating, then bruises would still be there. Everyone deserves justice, no matter how much of a muppet they may have been. Remember Police in the UAE are not all locals, think Yemenis, Pakistanis etc...

The story changes from throwing a housekeeper out of a window to over an internal balcony.....is this when they realized that the windows don't open.....not suggesting that this guy was an angel, however with Sky and other networks running it, I'm sure we'll hear more BS, for sure. Didn't the 'offense' happen in airport.....?

I don't think anybody deserves death for drinking and swearing .
However , the behaviour of some Brits in Dubai is beyond the pale .
I was recently at the Dubai Classic and the behaviour of certain Brits at the bar by the big screen / scoreboard on the Friday afternoon was shameful . Complete disregard for all the children around . Finally a very large Fijian or two security approached and pointed to the gate . They left , but I do wish they had felt a few slaps to see the error of their ways . Sadly , the whole 'Brit in jail ' scenario will only get worse . The UK press should do us all a favour and get their facts straight .

See drunken hooligans at the airport every day. No sympathy for these idiots. If they kept to themselves, who cares. The fact is they usually make a$$holes of themselves bothering others, in this case to a dangerous extent

EGGW in regards to your post, the drugs in his system you said was found in his blood.... However until there is an official finding on how long those drugs were in his system its not fair to make a comment like that.
If they had taken a urine sample from his bladder and done a opiates test then the drugs had to be in his system for less then 48 hrs. So now the big thing here is did he give a urine sample after his arrest or after he was dead.
Also if it was a blood sample then how long were the drugs in his system. The Old Canadian story of how he was in a room and inhaled a lot of weed while his friends smoked it is pretty lame. Might be enough for an Olympic Council investigation but we know the truth.......
Anyway your post kinda makes him out like a quasi Saint and I know it being Lent and all its a nice gesture but........... Yob are Yobs and its about time someone dealt with them because obviously the British Government aren't!
