Well from what I've been reading I'm afraid to apply at Emirates now. I'll be doing my ATP check ride this month and was hoping to apply at Emirates, now I'm not to sure.

Hi Guys

I'd like to make one question.

I applied to Emirates in August, shortly after that I got the email that my application has been place in the shortlisted pool, but since then no communication at all, I have updated my profile a couple of times but nothing at all.

has anyone got the invitation for the assessment recently?? Actually I was so happy because after 3 days I got the email, so I though it is going to be fast, for good or for bad, I know most of the guys in my airline that applied recently got the email saying that they are not even shortlisted.

Thank you guys

EK selection

Hi guys.. I just went for EK selection and I didn't clear it..I will try and write whatever I remember and experience. Again, I am just writing my experience and it could be different from others.

I got email from EK for PSP in AMS but I was not able to attend the PSP so they gave me an option to come and do full 4 days in DXB. After sending them email that I can come dubai they sent me option for dates in October. I picked my date which suited me and replied. Within 1 day, I got confirmation that those dates have been booked.

1 week before the assessment, I got email with forms to be filled and brought on day 1. They give you list of documents. Make sure you have all these with you on day 1.

Then another email which had sim brief package.

Then another email with visa and ticket.

Your ticket is Y/J.. That means you are confirmed for economy but if space available and if you ask check-in person, you will get upgrade to business.

After arrival in DXB, you can either get taxi or hotel shuttle. To get hotel shuttle you might have to wait for 30-40 mins.. I took a taxi and it costed me 40dhs.

Hotel is a 3 star Premier inn. Not very impressive, but has a 24 hours costa coffee. You are entitled for 100dhs which you can use it in hotel restaurant, room service, bar etc..for breakfast you are only entitled for continental breakfast, not allowed to eat hot meals in breakfast as not entitled.

Day 1:- Bus leaves the hotel at exact 6:30 am and arrives at 6:40. You walk and make your way to pilot lounge. Everyone knows it. You can ask any EK staff.

A very warm welcome from EK pilots. They will ask your room number and documents and print out of documents they had sent you in email.

Then you continue to HR brief. And then followed by Brief with selection pilot who would be doing your sim.

Very nice TRE. Very honest. He gave us a chance to ask him whatever we wanted to.
We asked him a lot of questions. He answered all very patiently and honestly.
Pilots are flying 90+ hours.. EK is really short of FO. Hence hiring a lot of guys. Also since short of FO, very slow command upgrade. May be 10-12 years.. He said company says 5 but he thinks 10-12.. He said don't come to EK if you are not prepared for EK ops. Max 8 days off in a month. As you go up on seniority your bidding value goes up and can spend upto 15 days at home.. But he said there are 3000+ pilots , so he said just think by when will your seniority comes.

Then divided in to groups.. Airbus guys did sim on A380 and boeing on B777.

Rest of guys did compass test.

Compass test was 90% similar to latest pilot jobs. Everyone who came had done latest pilot jobs.

Day finished.. Go hotel.. At 4:30 you get a call if you continue or not..if you didn't make it, try after 2 years.

On day 2... It starts at 7 am so again take the same shuttle at 6:30. Go to 6th floor and do some physcometry questions.. 10:30 spouse joins and go for tour.. Very nice and informative.. Ask as many questions you want.

Come back to office, do some more physcmtry questions..

Day 3:- i did not pass this day. You start with group excercise and then panel interview..

Out of 16 guys, 10 failed on day 1.. I don't know how many failed on day 3..

EK has very big operations as we all know, but just think if you are ready for it.. Its a very good company.. One of the best.. Dont go to EK if you are looking for command.. If you want to spend time woth family, you need to wait till you go up in seniority.. Which might be 4-5 years..

Overall good company good people.. I didn't make it but wish you all good luck and hope you get into EK and write inside story..

Sim profile

I am getting many OM asking about sim profile. So I will write here so that everyone can read.

SIM is for about 45 mins..

Raw data takeoff.. Clearance would be takeoff maintain rwy heading, 1500ft turn left hdg 120 climb 3000.. It was same clearance for everyone.

Then turn right to heading .... Climb to ... With 1000ft

Then turn left to heading ... Decent to... With 1000ft

Then they ask you what is your position for London VOR..

They pause the sim and put you on 30 degree intercept, raw data ILS 2 engine.. You are already on F5 confrigration. Do ILS and you will go missed as per the profile.. After clean up engine failure.. Simple flame out.. When aircraft is under control, trimed, they freeze the sim again.. They ask you your next course of action(s)..

Then they put you on 30 degrees intercept again.. Single engine ILS aprch.. You are F5 confrigration and you have FD.. Continue to land.. If unstable go around..

End of check..

Overall

Overall everything is very relaxed and simple.. After every excercise you feel ahh this was not that difficult.. And you feel you did good.. But results says something else..

I was shocked to see guys with 777 747 330 with thousand of hours.. Flying with good airlines were not able to pass day 1.. What they want or what are they looking for only they can say..

migair54, same situation for me. From what it looks like, nothing is guaranteed. You might get a call for an interview/assessment next month or in 6 months, or even no call at all. It all depends on what they have on file in terms of experience pool.

Best of luck buddy,

Nice to see the pilot being honest on the working conditions. They will need 100's of pilots and we need you guys to pass so you can replace us quickly 😉.

Salary package?

Thank you LDGGRUP for such an informative post. I'm sorry you didn't get through, but it may be a blessing.

I was wondering if you or anyone was given a more detailed salary package. I have read the general description in the job advertisement. 29500DHs, is that correct, does it include per diems? I would like to know if they pay 100% of school fees or just up to a maximum allowance. Relocation costs etc, stuff like that.

I have been invited to AMS in January, but would like to know more about the financial package on offer.

Thanks again for the post.

Education Allowance

Copied from emiratesgroupcareers.com FAQ:
Do I get Education Support Allowance?
Yes, support allowances (for up to 3 children) are as follows:
Primary School AED 40,000 maximum per child (Emirates pay 100% of the first AED 20,000 and 90% of the balance, up to a limit of AED 40,000 per academic year).
Secondary School AED 60,000 per child (Emirates pay 100% of the first AED 30,000 and 90% of the balance, up to a limit of AED 60,000 per academic year)

Note: These allowances have recently been increased to 47500 and 72500 AED pa.

caveat:
Allowance not paid until school year in which child becomes 5 years old. i.e Nursery and British curriculum FS1 excluded. Some schools offer 10% discount for EK employees. There is a slight over-supply of school places for the first time in a while so places are available but many of the better schools charge more than these fees. Not-for-profit schools tend to be over-subscribed. Children with special needs may experience more difficulty finding places. Some schools are direct billing with EK which lowers the stress levels of writing a cheque that you can't cover until EK refunds the claim.

Hope that helps

Great Info, thanks for sharing!

If you come from a Turboprop or regional jet are you able to choose equipment?

You can express a preference during interview on final day but you are not guaranteed your preference and it may change at any time according to company requirements.

Why would single put you in a disadvantage? As desperate as they are for bodies, I don't think they really care what your status is and never have in the past either. One way to find out how you stack up, apply and find out. But considering the low time candidates with no jet time now being accepted I assume you would be a leap ahead of them.

It could have been like that in the old times. A married pilot was seen as a person looking for a stable, long term career in the same airline. Even better if he has kids. The guys that you see jumping from place to place every one or two years are usually single.

But now we live surrounded by beancounters. Single means smaller apartment, no wife and kids visa costs, medical or education allowances, less annual leave tickets and a long etc.

The way I see it, they may like it if you say that you've gone through vasectomy or that you're gay.

They don't care if you are single or not. 8 pople joined the assessments. 5 of them married. They picked the one who is single with the Aussie passport and eliminat the rest. As they lowered the requirements to one above hell, i don't think they would even care about you being gay or not lol

The failure rate has gone up because the minimum requirements have gone down but the required standards haven't- yet.
