Dear 308GT4

If you look you will see that I do not often post here, but I do read this forum often. As a relatively young chap that has been at EK for nearly 4 years let me invite you to apply here and see for yourself that the things people are saying is very often true and correct. It cannot be that somehow you are more wise than the dozens of people that are trying to warn you from working for EK. I can assure you that within 2 years you will feel overworked, under appreciated, and grow tired of the fear of getting something wrong and having to come face to face with a screaming Chief Pilot. Although the meetings with the chief pilot are probably not as often as some seem to indicate, I can assure you that you are never further than a small mistake away at all times. The fear culture definitely prevails in all aspects of the business.

I like to think that I am normally a relatively positive person and that may be why I do not voice my opinion often here. However from time to time I read a post that interests me such as yours. I invite you to come here and see for yourself as that is often what it takes, but do not be surprised when you join the masses that are sick and tired of what this airline has become in very short amount of time.

Unfortunately the good old days are gone.
To compete these days you have to be a bean counter.
Those days that Pilots were Gods are gone.
Today you’re just a number and no longer an asset but a liability (SAD but true).
Wish we could turn back the clock!!!

You horrid evil people ruining 308GT4's dreams. She has spent hours dreaming of a job with EK and you are wasting her time stating how it is. Take a long hard look at yourselves.

308, no one has to leave to make room for you, nor any other of the entitled generation. You only need to get off your @rse, get some experience, apply, pass the type rating like everyone else. And yes, it's true, once you get hired you get your very own unicorn. It doesn't get any better than that does it.

308----6 years in is hardly 'fighting tooth and nail'. Most of the pilots you suggest should bugger off and retire spent a lot longer than that getting into a large jet.

Working Conditions

After seeing many complaints in EK, I was wondering if it can be really that bad for a South American Pilot working on a South American Major Airline, whose flying hours are from 75-85 hours a month as an A32S Captain, 9 -10 days off a month with 4-6 legs every assignment and duty of 11-12 hours. Legs of no more than one hour of trip time and transit times of 30 minutes, salary of $7000 USD monthly plus a 30% deduction of taxes. Living in a country a bit more expensive than the States, where you are paying $4.50 USD for a gallon of fuel and food being as expensive as it is in Dubai.

Can it get any worse than that?

Yes...

Not much more purchasing power (in fact probably much less) but being 15 hours away from your home country...not just food and beer, everything is very, very expensive here (we find that compared to the UK, many items cost almost double)!

Moving to the other side of the world and never getting any summer leave, or Christmas or Easter leave, meaning that you have to take the kids out of school for 3 weeks in April or send family home without you to see everyone. Repeat that for every year you are in the Middle East.

It's not too far for us European guys, but for SA it's a really, really, really long way...but believe me everywhere feels further once you get over here!

Can anyone tell me about Emirates Cadet Program for cabin crew

Hey guys! I'm MOON from South Korea. I just heard about that Cabin crews of Emirates airline and Qatar airways can get a chance to attend their company's cadet program. Also If their cabin crew are from other country without Middle East, they can get a chance participating in their cadet program. Is that true? Please Someone help me about this information.

Seems like crew shortage at E.K increasing. Any news of them recalling previous applicants before the 2 years re applying period ??

Hello, i'm a copilot at Egyptair, on the Boeing 738 with 2380 hours including 2180 on type, i've met all the requirements and 3 days after sending the application i received and email fro Emirates telling me that i've been short listed, today ( 2 weeks later ) i received this email :
" With respect to your application to join Emirates, we have now had the opportunity to thoroughly review your application.

We regret to inform you that we are unable to process your application any further and we are also unable to provide any further feedback with regard to why this decision was taken.

Although this may not be the reply you had hoped for, we wish you all the best in your future career and personal endeavours.

Yours sincerely,
Pilot Recruitment

This is a computer generated email and bears no signature. Please do not reply. "

Could anybody tell me what would the reason be ?

Hmmm, not sure how to put it without appearing biased/opinionated.

The clue is one word in the first line of your post, I strongly suspect, and it's not the type you're flying...

Do you mean " Egyptair " ? Is it shame to be an Egyptair pilot ?

No there is nothing wrong with being an Egyptair pilot. There are plenty of Egyptians working for EK. If I had to guess I would say that your total time is probably too low. Most of the low time pilots coming to Emirates come from Ryanair. EK has hired lots of pilots from Ryanair and they know exactly what they are getting with a low time pilot from that airline. Possibly they don't know as much about training at Egyptair and are consequently not as willing to take a risk on a low time pilot from your company. If you really want to come to EK then I would suggest re-applying after getting more experience.

But if I were you I would take it as a blessing. Things are not very good at EK at the moment and you have much more opportunity at the other two big gulf airlines. Quicker upgrade and better quality of life. Good luck

Sigh... as I said 7oodaz I'm not trying to sound opinionated, although in fairness to you I see your POV. You used the word 'Shame'. Don't go putting words in my mouth. Maybe you've just answered your own question...

Laker BTW there are around 10 Egyptian pilots at EK as I understand... (Actually 12, 3 in the last year, just counted)

Nah. I got that refusal a few years ago, so I know what that one is like. BMI is now under 30. I was just wondering if I can reapply again in the future, and if so, after how long?
