Hi all, received an notification frOm EK explaining My application has been shortlisted . Any ideas of a timeframe before I can expect to be called for interview? I have 2300 on type and fall short of the minimum requirements by 200 hours.

I was wondering if EK cares about your PIC hours upon joining, for you to get the left seat faster. In my personal case, I could apply to EK now, but staying in my current airline, I could get the command in 1 year, and then fly 1 more year as CPT, in order to join EK with about 1000h PIC.
Anyway, I guess it's always better to have PIC hours, in case I regret the move to EK. That would be aprox 4000h 737, 1000h PIC.
What's the current time to command now?

Well, they probably care about your PIC hours in order to get hired but after that, you just fall into the pot as a prospective Captain. I do believe though, that getting 1000 hrs PIC is always a good idea, of course depending on type.

Ek has a priority of upgrades. First off, the F/O's already here who meet the number of successful sims, EK TYPE total hours (can't remember what that is now but around 3000 hrs?) etc. So with our B737 time, that means you have to get the required number of hours on EK type, regardless of your total command hours. Then our OMA states, that 'accelerated' command pilots get the next shot (but that has not happened in the last 4 years, in general), then it states that DEC's will be a last option (which unfortunately has occured even though we had F/O's who fulfilled all the reqmts)

In other words, getting 1000 hrs command on a good type is always smart but it 'probably' won't do you any good here at EK, in regards to a faster upgrade.
My opinion? Get your upgrade and add some PIC hours into your logbook, then start thinking about this ex-pat job. Current upgrade timeframes are.... and anyone feel free to correct me....4.5 years on the Bus and 3.5 on the Boeing. Those numbers will probably increase and reverse in the next two years.

By the way, you are assigned the aicraft type you upon arrival, and quite often it has NO relevance to your previous experience. It's al dependent on the company's needs at the very moment you arrive.

I see the aircraft orders in EK,so waiting 2 more years to get PIC hours is not a problem, and things can settle down a bit. I thought that provided your background they offer you the fleet Boeing to Boeing, Airbus to Airbus. In my case one of the reasons to go to EK would be the 777, so if they offer me 330, I would be quite disappointed. Any chance to request the 777, and have it granted?

Yes of course you can request it, but there is not guarantee whatsoever that you will be granted your request. You will not find out, until you arrive.

Most guys I know, think that 'new-joiners' would be best served on the Bus. not sure if that is the reality but they are probably correct.

Not to beat a dead horse, and this only applies to the 777, but there are actually 14 sectors in your line training.

You will do 10 sectors. Then you will do what is called a "Release-to Line check" (2 sectors). Then you will do your Final Line Check (2 sectors).

Hi, I have a few questions concerning the Provident Fund:

1) It says that the minimum contribution is 5% of EK's basic salary, and EK contributes 12% as well. Is there a limit as too how much you can opt to contribute and if so, does EK up its contribution from 12%?

2) Who looks after the Provident Fund?

3) Is the provident fund open to all types of investments such as bonds, currency exchange, stocks, futures, and mutual funds depending on your requested risk allocation?

Just a quick question, wondering if anyone has any idea what the washout rate for applicants in the Emirates selection currently is, earlier posts (over a year ago) seem indicated way over 50% are not getting through...also, is there any airline applicants who seem to fair better throughout the 4 days in Dubai?

Still around 50% which is the reason they are short of crew. They've not compromised on the selection process yet.
