Hi, could anybody explain what do they mean by "modern aircraft" in the 2500 hrs requirement? Is the criterium MTOW, or EFIS, or ...?

Thanks!

Spiral climb,

I do not work at EK but I know a few people who do. I know a couple on the A330 and evidently you move to the A340-500 as FO within 1-2 years and you could be seated in an A380 within 2-3 years of start. The growth seems to be on the Airbus side with the many A380s (potentially 100+ A380s) and A350s on the way... The A330s will be phased out in a few years.

Given your experience in the Airbus, what's the attraction to the 777 fleet at EK? Are you already tired of the sidestick?

Upcoming Interview

Hello to all. I was interviewed a couple years ago and placed in the hiring pool but that was right when the economy took a nosedive. They have been contacting me rather frequently recently and I finally updated my times and so forth and they told me to expect a January interview. I was wondering if any of you gentlemen are in the same position? Will the interview be the full process like I never interviewed before or is there an abbreviated version. Any insight or info on this would be very helpful. Thanks to all and fly safe.

Brewman you will have to undergo the full assessment. There is no abbreviated selection process as they need a snapshot of you as you are now.

The psychometrics are only valid for 1 year, as is the sim check. And the Compass testing is easy enough not to worry about.

Good luck.

Medical at EK

Can anybody tell me how extensive the medical checks are at EK. Are they FAA first class standards or are they much more detailed in their examination.

I can only compare to the CAA initial and I would say they are the same if not a bit more invasive.
Out of the 6 taking a medical recently they found sugar in the urine of two and abnormalities with the EKG on another two, all of which have been renewing there medicals with no problem for years?

Either way you look at it, they are through.

Do you do another medical when actually joining the company or does the medical you do during your selection cover this?

Brewman - do beware however, I know someone from the US who was in the holding pool a while back. Went to interview about 2 weeks ago (again), and he didn't make the cut. So about a year ago he was EK material and now he isn't. Just saying that just bcause one may have have made it last time around, doesn't mean so much. I thought it would have done - but apparently not.

I interviewed over a month ago and still have not heard anything. Made it through the selection program, they contacted my references, then nothing. How long does it take or do people get lost in the shuffle?

Thanks for the input britishguy. I realize things have changed some since a couple years ago. I don't expect by any means to be guaranteed a successful interview, I'm sure they'll treat me as if I have never tried before, I was just hoping for a little heads up on the process. I'll give it another shot and we'll see.

Costs

I know a lot of this has already been answered, but after searching for a while, I'm not sure of what is what. I am curious on first year F/O salary with wife only, no kids, what sort of expenses are expected to be paid by me when living in company accomodation. I know its a 3br flat, but how much could one expect to pay for electricity, water, sewer, trash, internet, tv, phone, and all else after allowance from company. Just want a good idea of what would be left over for other expenses back home. I gather around 7000/month starting, but if 5000 of that goes to expenses in dubai, not really a whole lot left for fun and leisure. Thanks for any input.

Brewman 187,

Elec, water, trash, sewage, tv (free to air of which there are hundreds of channels but obvioulsy most not in english) & phone (up to 100DHS/month) all covered by EK.

Internet, pay-tv & mobile phone - look up the Etisalat, du, and OSN websites and choose a plan that suits you.

I assume your talking about 7000 USD? You'd have to be a knuckle head if you spunk away 5k a month.

Hope that helps

Hey Guys

In the process of applying to EK. It states that I have 3 months to fill out and submit the application form. I was under the impression once I had registered on the site I could apply and update my hours accordingly regardless of how long the application was kept until it was submitted. As I need approx 6 months before I meet the requirement can anyone shed any light on this...

Regards,
