Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my post. I appreciate your points, and I'm getting the impression that no matter where you go and fly, this career is not what it once was. So, what are the options available?
Stay in your current airline for what you feel are the right reasons for you and your family, if applicable,or move somewhere else, where you think the grass maybe greener or the sand, sandier?
Again, I take note of the points that you make, and flying 90+ hours a month is not good for you and your well being. I don't know if Emirates are actively recuiting Pilots to reduce the current Pilots working hours or are they doing it to support their expanding fleet.
I think it all comes down to two things:
1. Your current circumstances and whether you are happy with them.
and
2. Your expectations from an airline career.
These two points will probably give you the direction in which way to follow. Only time will tell if you have made the right call.

Could anyone advise me how the flight pay system works and what the rates are for a first officer, just trying to get an overall picure of what true earnings might be on a monthly basis. Also what standard of accommodation could I expect if I decided to take the job, I have a mrs and 2 small people.

Emirates interviews - think twice about working for them!
I have to be careful here as have friend working for Emirates almost 3 years! She is cabin crew. NONE of her friends have been able to carry on to reach end of 3 years' contract as they could not bear working for them! (have even heard 'hearsay' some have gone home and simply NOT returned!!) Many left after 2 years. I have heard about bullying of staff; staff being called in for 'disciplinaries' for no good reason, such as just a few days say in 6 months or AUTHORISED by clinic sick leave when the qualified doctors have told staff they MUST NOT FLY! ; giving her the 'bad rosters' - basically on flights to places crew don't like or the people they are flying (trying not to be racist here, but there are some PAX who are 'challenging'!!) Staff have NO EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS whatsoever - if such bullying/harassment were to go on in a co. in UK, they could sue for constructive dismissal! They have NO union representation/NO back up.
Emirates appear to be 'cutting corners' recruiting cheaper staff from India; still recruiting in UK but with lower pay on offer. All this bullying/harassment is SURELY going to severely lower the morale of staff - which MUST at some stage reflect their attitudes with passengers! Eventually the public could choose some of the smaller cheaper airlines - if these others are still in business themselves!
By all means if you are a young person 'wanting to see some of the world' apply for the job; maybe just do the job for about 18 months or so; but do not expect ANY employment rights or fair treatment as I hear 'they make up the rules as they go along'! I would be surprised if in the future IF they let a cabin crew member COMPLETE their 3-yr contract, when they should receive a pay-out, without 'trumping up something' to get rid of them. Hence they can get out of 'stumping up the money'!

Is there any chance that EK would look at anyone with less than the minimum requirements? I would like to join once I meet the updated requirements but would they invite an applicant for selection who currently does not meet these requirements?

Do not listen to all these Lazy Pilots.... they are just complain about nothings!
Is BEAUTIFUL place, with nice friendly courteous peoples... good weathers all of year for the Skiing's, Fishing's, Sailing's and the Phorewheeldriving's too...
Your Wives and all your Girlfriends and all their Family will enjoy it! There is many many things to do for them all.... so many Shopping's Mall, Hotels, Sauna's and plenty of good roads and parkings too!
You will get a VERY good Contracts with plenty of Holiday with nice Accommodations, with very good salaries, excellent Bonus!, a nice allowances and the Taxes are all for free!
Also you can fly the nice shiny Airplane all of the nights..
.. and have one day off all of the months to take your Family skiing at the Mall!...Habbibii...It is a PARADISE!
Also we all have a very, very good Managers at E.K..... ....they work very hard to make for the cheaper Airline and to make the Pilot work more harder!.. for the less!! ..for better of my wonderful Country debt reduction and to keep all Locals in good Job!...
..... Only last week I was at Capt American's Villa for fairwell Party to ED... ...Every one was there..... TCAS, T.C., Maurie...even E.G.T. was there (and he write his first F.C.I.!!) - but no Lazy Pilot was there!!... ED was so shocked! He a very fine experience Management Guy, and very good to all Pilots, with many many GOOD changes to Contract. He has many many hours long haul Pilot...his Englishes was nice, he write many, many F.C.I's, F.C.N's and Emails... We miss him soooo.... much already on 9th Floor,... especially after Gym Class in Sauna...
....
So come...tell all your Pilot Friends not to be Lazy Pilots and come to work for me!! You will be treated like a KING!!!

Approximately how much do you guys make per month in US dollars? I fly for Delta Airlines and was considering leaving to make more money. I skipped through this thread and decided that is not a good idea. I was under the impression Emirates first officers make over $20,000/month. That's about 3 times what I make as a junior Delta first officer. Is this not the case?

Base for an FO is currently around 24 100 AED= 6 566 USD/ Mth.
With free Housing, health, provident fund and education allowance, I guess 8-10 000 might be a fair package estimate depending on individual circumstances.

Yes I made a typo (divided 25000 by 3 instead of 3.67), so your figure is correct, and on that basis a package figure of around 8-11K is probably ball park (I thought mine seemed high as I wrote it.).

Hi Guys,
Could anyone tell me whether I can use my Boeing 737 Simulator time towards the 2500 jet hours required for EK. Everyone I've spoken to at my work has said yes, but I just wanted to make sure, with the guys who currently are with EK.

Gents...I have an EK interview soon and was wondering if anyone had a copy of some aptitude software that is available online. It is called Cockpitweb Aptitude testing. I would be happy to purchase any copies that people have and no longer require. Not sure if it is of any use but worth a punt.
