Good for you ! Fortunately you are not the only one , otherwise this place would be a hell to work in.
The only problem is that, no matter when you join, you find out sooner or later that your living conditions degrade slowly, as well as your available cash. It's not obvious, but it takes a few yeats to realize it.
Maybe that's for good.... Maybe we are not designed to stay here 20 years or so...?
They are many good things here, as well as bad. Every year you have a look at both sides here. It keeps the balance

Talking of Microsoft does anyone have a realistic ATC for India? Or better still LAX... cleared push tail west, roger cleared push nose east.. NEGATIVE cleared push tail west..roger cleared push nose east...oh so much fun. LOL

Hi guys, just been shortlisted, please explain:: got almost 8000 TT of which 1300 on B747's, 1200 Fokker 100, 2000 on Learjets...etc How's the assesment set up lately..

ek is still good

look life is not perfect, but life in ek is still good. if you are planning to come to DXB just keep in mind that command will take you a little more than 4 years, however things can change and the last 6 months have been good to the company. Dubai is like sushi, you like it or not.... good for kids, safe, lots of things to do and prices are very stable since the economic turn down. In the interview if you are lucky to get one you would see things how they are and if you are invited to join I don't think you would be able to say no!!! merry xmas and the best for 2010

Some one says EK is not for everybody and I agree..you have to be an idiot to work in this ****hole for these arsholes.
I never felt so happy in my life than the day I sent them to ****uk of...them and their arrogant stupidity and I now fully realize the mistake I made in joining on the first place and the fraud I was a victim of. Cosmopolitan city... yeah.. indian, pakistani, and filipino workers with no rights payd 100 dollar per month to work 12 hours under the scorching sun,seven days a week as security or unqualified bartenders, waiter or shop clerks ... and a very small minority of westerners accomplices in this criminal organization for the exploitment of the poors and disinherited.
You can recognize the EK pilot even without a uniform. Is the overaged chap with the sad face of someone who sold his soul, gave away his human and workers rights and lost all self respect just for few hundred bucks. Any intelligent person coming from secular,democratic, legally guranteed, climatically normal country should think ten times before joining this middle age circus even if the alternative is facing unemployement. Your piloting skills and professionality will be totally wasted, your intelligence will be offended. If you are stupid.. well that's your problem. And what about the incredible lifestyle of Dubai....
To me life style means something more than living in dust and sand, sweating like a pig, sitting on a beach made of cigarettes buts, bathing on a sea in which tons of **** were dumped ,leaving in air conditioning for 9 months a year, eating fake food, availing poor quality services , poor medical services and spending time bouncing like a ball in a flipper form mall to mall..and then waking up at 12.30 am to fly a ****ty turn around to some indian fucukckued up destination( if you ever managed to close your eyes for the costant construction or other nature noises surrounding your fucucked company accommodation ). Please feel free to PM me for unbiased infos and don't listen to those chanting like sirens.They just look for people to share the pain or are affected by a severe Stockholm syndrome..

Good post VR. But let's take a breath and remember a few facts. This airline has not lost any money, yet:

1) No bonus this year
2) No longevity pay raise
3) No pay raise in general
4) Overtime pay taken away (unless you fly over 93 hours)
5) As augmenting crew, you are not credited for rest time (paid, yes)
6) Full utilities taken away. Only partially paid now.
7) No more than 4 days off in a row, later changed to no more than 7.
8) As of today, 98 FCIs (flight crew instructions) issued this year. Temporary changes to something,for those not knowing.
9) More online training to be accomplished throughout the year-no pay
10) No allowence to opt out of company accomodations, unless buying
11) All rosters seem to be in the 90 hour range.
12) Numbers of pilots fired or downgraded for non safety related issues.
13) First Officer upgrade now 3000 hours of EK time.
14) A330 Senior First Officers mandated to F/O A380. No chance to upgrade for ANOTHER three years. Then back to the 330.
15) Open time availability taken away to be able to trade or request.
16) ADs (available days) added to rosters.
17) All ULR pilots lose a day off due to SBUs, standby the day before leaving on a ULR trip.
18) Temporary accomodations for up to a year and a half to all new joiners, even with families. This was finally rectified, after 1.5 years.
19) Mandated meetings with management on days off-no pay or credit

I am sure I have made a few mistakes and would love to be corrected if the above is incorrect. I am sure there may be a few I have forgotten. This has all taken place in one year from airline that has not lost one small dirham. Many of these may seem minor and trivial, but it shows what has taken place over the past year. My goodness, what would happen if we actually lost money?

My point in all this, for those that are comtemplating coming here, and you have a reasonable job, just remember again, these degradations of the terms and conditions of our employment have been from an airline that continues and has made profits. And notice I have not even addressed the overall living conditions here that one experiences daily. And that includes the "rights" one has as one of the ninety percent expat population.

That, my friend, is the reason for the post. The guy that posted that has seen a number of changes and none for the better. Several years ago, this airline was a fairly decent place, IMHO, and I said so. And there were guys moaning and groaning even then. But rereading my post, I said in the last year things have changed, drastically. Would I come here now with the way things are? Yes, if I had no job or worried about my family's safety. Otherwise, no way would I come here today. But like many, I am stuck here with little or no opportunities of equal value. The pay here is fair, not good, and employment for the most part is stable, if you don't embaress the company. Take a little personal survey of your own and ask first officers if they made the right decision to come here.

The reason for the post was just to point out the losses we have taken in less than one year from one of the few airlines in the world showing profits. And there is no improvement in sight. Can anyone name any improvements over what was in place in the beginning of 2009?

So IXNAT is a bit inconsistent. Does it make his more recent observations any less correct?

He's got some valid points, and b.t.w. the Upgrade FCI was extended another six months today (see EK Snorkel's post), so think about that if you're a "little jet" (less than 55 Tonnes) driver and you are considering committing yourself to a job at Emirates.
