Question Emirates Technical Tests

All,

Would be really grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction to get hold of practice papers/example questions of the Emirates technical tests. I have an up coming interview with an airline which uses the same style of questions.

I have tried the search but nothing comes up

"Ace the Technical Pilot Interview" will have all the right questions and answers for you.

There are a few mistakes in that book, but overall it's what you can expect.

Emirates F/O sim profiles.

Hello to all recently employed F/Os.
I am looking for any clues about the(interview) selection Sim. I have very little information about the profiles to be flown and would appreciate any information please. Which sim is used .. Power settings attitudes...Emergency drills to be done . Jeppesen plates etc.
Any tricks ?

Yes, you show up, they give you a good briefing on what you are supposed to do. (Boeing or Airbus) You use your own company procedures and DO YOUR BEST.
If it's what they are looking for and you fit the profile, you will be hired...

It's quite simple actually. Be yourself and do your best.

i can remember some questions;
- What is the transponder code for lost comm?

or
- Calculate density altitude for the following field XXXX temperature XXXX etc etc

- What happens to the CP when extending flaps?

- What Engines are on the 330?

The test was not that difficult,just dust off that old ATPL knowledge...

EK job....What to do?

Well, I was successful with my interview at EK. I was offered a class this summer on the A330. I'm very excited about it, but unsure if it's the best choice. Everyone keeps saying that you won't save money and you'll be gone all the time. But, I've been told the average A330 trips are better than the 777's because the 330's trip days are around 2-4 day trips instead of the 7-9 day trips on the Boeing. Also, there's a good chance for a quick upgrade since the A380 is coming and there will probably be some movement. But, with the inflation in Dubai, I'm starting to think life could be unaffordable on FO pay. If EK is paying for my rent, that's money that I wouldn't have in the US, so I guess it averages itself out. Any help from ANYONE about what's the best choice or opinions on money or the A330 or Dubai.....please PM me. I've got some big decisions to make and I'm all over the map right now. I have no idea what to make of all this. Thanks

Unfortunately at the moment you might aswell paint a black spot on your map -- the Middle East. Unless you have a specific reason WHY you'd like to join Emirates, you'd rather stay where you are.
The local rulers are stubbornly and systematically ignoring what they seeded in the greedy minds of the locals and continue to exploit shamelessly all the expats. The system reacts with lowering quality to third world standards and with skyrocketing inflation.
Eventually there will be a awakening, with certainly some other country or influence to be blamed, only then it will be worth again to join EK.
If you can, wait until T&C's match lifestyle again.

I agree, big time, 10 years at least because us captians leaving will be replaced by DEC because it's cheaper.

Clearly you are having some doubts about heading out this way.
Do you remember the advice you were given before getting married? The same advice you were given when you got your first command?

There is nothing new in it, but the point it is, it is written by an independent journo (independent from pprune that is).

Those of us who consider ourselves proponents of facts are constantly being labelled whingers, glass half empty types (which may well be true) but at least this article indicates that these afflictions are not perculiar to EK pilots!!!!!!!

We might be paranoid, but at least we are not alone

I now have a few more minutes to give you a more in depth answer.

Congratulations on getting the job that so many seem to want!

You asked an honest question and I believe you have had honest answers. It certainly is not what it was and the Middle East knows that it can pick and choose from many less successful regions around the world, hence no real incentive to raise the salaries by much.

I am not going to repeat what has been said on the public boards, but there is a wealth of information out there and very few, in fact hardly anyone, has anything positive to say. But if you are starving and out of work and prepared to work to the legal limits for a salary that is not much more than anywhere else pays, then that is your choice.

Time period to command is variable, there are now so many DECs that the current FOs are being pushed further behind and the wait is getting longer. Most of us in the LHS are only in our late thirty's / early forty's so beware if you are coming here for a quick command!

The whole of Dubai is expanding at an unsustainable rate, something will have to give and the airline's expansion will be slowed. That will push the wait to transfer seats back further.

Personally I have nothing at all to whinge about really. I have made money here, I fly a nice new shiny jet, I have a nice car and the company give me a house to live in and overall I am happy. But, the place is not my home and never will be. The management culture is shocking with no concern at all for the people. There is no union and never will be and the management, even those fully protected by unions in their own previous lives, exploit this and it has even been mentioned by them that they can do things the way they do because they can.

If I had my time again I would not have left my home country to chase a bit of cash, in fact I probably feel no better than the average street girl here when I actually do a bit of soul searching; so dig deep inside and ask yourself why you would ever want to come here?

After a while the planes all blur into one, destinations become nothing more than recovery centres before the next flight and time off is increasingly more valuable. I for one will never give up a day off to fly no matter how much they offer, I simply value my time off more than the company do.

I never post here but felt compelled to in this case. All the responses here are bang on the money. If I could go back, I too would not have come but would have stayed back where I came from. There is no benefit from a financial viewpoint to be here, as it was put before, why work here for the same money? When I came, it was 3 years max. to command, good rosters, nice town, good company. Now you can watch DEC come and take that which we based our decisions on away, take away pay, increase your workload...etc etc. In fact they are so focused on saving money that the stress marks are showing, and there has been much speculation on the REAL financial condition of the company.

My suggestion to you (if it was me again), stay where you are, enjoy the change of seasons, the smell of grass and the clean air.

Choices....

G4 - I am lurker in this forum but a few guys know who I am and know that I am among the longest serving group of pilots here. I do not broadcast my views very much, but suffice to say this town has changed dramatically.
What is your current status? Are you an airline pilot on furlough, flying corporate as your handle implies? Or are you in an airline job in the US?
Your decision is a tough one. As a young man I made a similar one 16+ years ago to come to Dubai and I have no regrets.
Financially, you will live well on an EK package but doubt you will save much. The early adopters who bought houses seem to have done very well, but prices are now at western levels, with none of the protections or priviledges.
The emotional or psychological shift is much harder. Remember that becoming an expat is a one-way street. There is no 'going back' - don't ever kid yourself on that one. If you have family and roots where you are, earn a liveable wage and have career prospects, my advice would be to stay there.
The choice is yours - think about it, make it and NEVER look back.

And if things weren't bad enough before. Uncle Sam will start taxing you on the money EK will be paying for your rent. And remember rent in Dubai is expensive. And this will not be covered by the exclussion.
