Emirates is very clear & quite picky about their requirements, unless I misunderstood your post; you do not meet the minimum requirements stated for FO. Here's a copy from their site:
Requirements for Position of First Officer - A330/A340 and B777
Due to high levels of interest expressed by candidates who are close to our minimum hours requirements, we are pleased to announce that we will now accept and review applications from candidates for First Officer positions who do not yet meet our published minimum hours requirements.
Candidates who are up to 500 hours below total and/or multi-engine jet hours are invited to submit their applications and may be offered the opportunity to attend a selection programme in Dubai. Successful candidates must, however, meet published minimum hours requirements prior to joining.
Due to the airline indrustry problems worldwide, Emirates is receiving many applicants that do meet and exceed the minimum requirements, and selecting to contact only those top applicatants. They want the applicants/candidates to be very prepared; so you may not want to hurt your chances of being selected in the future, once you have the requested experience, good luck!!

I joined EK last year after waiting 8 months for a DEC interview... I applied with 10K+ TT, and 5K+ as a -11/-10 Captain. Additionally I had 20+ years of Military Flying... After arriving, and going through the interview process (only 2 out of 8 of us were hired), I opted to come to EK as an FO...a decision I am very happy I made! Coming to EK, or any other airline for that matter, requires you to check your ego in at the door, and learn what you can from those who have local experience...
I say this because, I easily could have had an interview much sooner with EK had I just applied for the FO position initially!
Those of you out there that are applying for EK and are coming from the left seat, and feel you "must" get a job as a DEC.... more power to you... but perhaps a slice of humble pie is in order, and taking the FO job will not only get you in the door quicker... but in the end, you'll have a much easier time adjusting to all the interesting facets of life in Dubai. (Not to mention understanding all there is to learn about EK)
There are plenty of threads to read about the DEC issues, etc... please read at your own leisure. I simply want to alert "some" out there that are waiting to hear from EK and tout all kinds of experience... well,... double check your application, and where it says, "Will you accept a FO position"... maybe you should give that some serious thought... it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Glad I was not the only one with the same thought process! Got into the interview with 4000+ PIC on the NG (TRE) and a total of 8500 on Jet >55t. Figured coming in as an FO would be the best and since we will get a villa (2 rugrats in tow!), it all makes sense!
Joining them in Aug, but i hear that housing is a mess, and will continue to be so for awhile longer

Recently submitted app on line for DEC. Received automated shortlist email w/in 72 hours (over the weekend); anyone have an idea when they may contact me for an interview date? Once contacted do they offer specific dates to select, or ask what dates or best for you to come? Anyone offerered a DEC opening at selection process? Also, do they allow fiancee(soon to be spouse) to accompany (pay for both our flights) on selection process? Any help, suggestions will be appreciated; it's been a long time since been through this process, thanks and good luck to us all

2 months after the interview, you should have an answer.
Suggest you start doing a little searching, all your questions have been
answered before in this forum, and this is not a North American situation
you are considering.
It requires much investigation in order to really understand what you are
truely about to get yourself into......Not doing your homework here can have
very bad results.

I have been doing quite a bit of research here and the emirates site, since this may be one of the biggest life decisions, if selected. (Especially after reading current employees misgivings). I have seen different responses on this forum about when contacted for interview dates & notification if you are a successful candidate; just need some clarification so can plan accordingly. For those that have been to Emirates, did you bring your spouse/partner? How did you arrange the flights financially? Couldn't imagine making a move without both of us knowing what to expect in Dubai, and want this to be beneficial for both of us. Thanks again for everyone's input, really helping us learn more about Emirates and Dubai.

Took 6 weeks for me to get notified
Got the email last week... was roughly six weeks from interview to acceptance letter. Most everyone that interviewed when I did got contacted the same week....

So how long does it take HR at EK to tell you "thanks but no thanks"? Its been two months for me and I haven't heard a thing from them. Does this mean that I till have a chance?
As far as airfare for the interview, I spent about $1,800 for my girl to go out to DXB for the interview. FL to JFK round trip on Delta, and EK round trip. $150 of that figure was for me to get to ATL round trip from FL. I didn't want to chance trying to Non-rev so I made the reservations about two months in advance.
The Majestic hotel wouldn't let her stay without getting their share too and charged me about 100dhs a night for her as well. Sad they wouldn't give us a room with a King size bed so we slept in seperate beds, the singles were to small.

I've been sched for a July 1 interview for over a month with no travel itinerary and have been sending them reminder emails. Just got an itinerary this am asking if I could do it: The email said that unfortunately they were not able to accomodate me with a direct flight because they were all booked. Instead they are booking me on a Virgin Atl. flt, with a 6 hrs sit then connect with Ek to DXB. 24hrs total (in economy) later I land at 23:55 in DXB. I'm assuming arriving at 01:30 or so at the hotel...do all the paper work...to bed at 0230 then up at 0500 for the 0600 shuttle then start a 12 hr day of interviewing.
Don't know about any of you but I can't sit 24hrs in Y class then get 3 hrs sleep at the hotel and be expected to look, speak, react, like a professional. So, I told them with all due respect....no thank you but I could leave a day early. Waiting on their response! Maybe it will be "stay home"! If so then I know what kind of company I'm dealing with and they will save both of us our time! I'm hopping not!

You should get at least the first day at leisure, for you to recover, then you will do your 3 days of selection, then they will ship you out on the first flight available!

How many of you did successfully go thru the entire three days of the selection program and had to wait for how many weeks to be denied by
EK finally?
Your inputs should clear it up.
I am in my fourth week, still waiting, without getting mad, aware that one of the guys got his referees checked (and is still waiting...) and that HR apparently applies a special algorithm to notify applicants, that "no news is good news" and by the time they call me things have to proceed at supersonic speed (for them...).

Hey Blue 320, think yourself lucky EK is willing to pay for your travel.
Not so long ago, candidates had to make their own way at their own expense. Think before bleating off and slagging a company that you are trying to get a job with.......
After all, it won't be too difficult for those in recruitment to identify you with you unique travel arrangements and email you claim to have sent.
It appears the company could save itself the time and effort in getting another moaner in the airline (god knows there are enough of those already, without importing newbies!!).
My advice, is think BEFORE opening your trap!!

What's it mean?
I did my interview in early June and as soon as I got home I heard that my references were being checked. But just a few days ago I talked to one of my references and he has not gotten a request from EK.
Any ideas why the would check only 2 of the 3?
Also all three references were from the same company as I have been with them for 8 years. Would that matter?

Are the nterviews completely on hold, or just slowing down the number of them? I already have one scheduleld in September. It was confirmed but not the travel information yet. Just wanted to see if I should not be worrying about setting someone up to watch our kids.
