For those that are interested....

Got an email from HR a couple of days ago and from now until at least June, all interviews will be DEC's and Airbus rated guys. Apparently they're going to put the Airbus guys through the "short-course".

I'm also still shortlisted....but I guess Spanair and Malev going bust didn't do us any favours.

Am I right in saying there seems to be a temp freeze on hiring FO's at the moment? Concentration seems to be on getting the DEC's through.

What I am reading above is that interviews are being limited to DEC and Airbus rated FOs. Does anyone have the message from HR? Is this speculation or have they said bluntly this is the current direction.

Also would anyone speculate if EK would do a "short course" on an A320 rated pilot for the A330?

I am 777 rated and currently flying the airplane. I got shortlisted and got invited for an interview.
But, I was very disappointed to learn that, eventhough, they want you to bring your wife they do not provide any tickets.
So, I am declining the invitation. There is no way you can live in Dubai without having your family approval of the place.

Thank you EK, maybe in the future if you are really interested in having people living in the Emirates you will be kind enough to give a ticket at least to the spouse

They don't. You will do the full initial type rating in any case. Even if A330 rated

1000Stabilised - moving to Emirates is a major change in your life and if you don't see that it is in your interests to take your wife with you, then you may not have the attitude they are looking for in any case. Being 777 rated does not bother them as you will still have to do the EK type rating. Not only that there is a queue a mile long (probably literally) of people who want that job, so I suspect EK probably wouldn't feel too gutted that you won't lower yourself to go out for an interview.
Emirates provide business class travel for you from just about anywhere in the world, a nice hotel and all meals and transport. Plus you get a nice A380 sticker and a lanyard This is vastly more than the majority of airlines will provide. The outfit I work for actually charge you to read your CV. So perhaps that puts it in perspective for you.
I have been out to Dubai recently, had a great time on the selection and was offered the job on the 777. Start in a few months and I can't wait...

Hadn't it been mentioned that the HR letter stated they were only looking for airbus rated FOs for a short course?

Did the FO selection in Dubai over a month ago.

Got through and received an email from HR last week saying that they still had no course dates to offer and it would take another 2/3 weeks before they could send start date and contract. Apparently Fleet Management are making changes to the courses...Whatever this means

I guess it all concurs with other emails received here: DEC are using up training resources...

Am 737NG rated by the way...

Test around May

... expecting the Emirates assessment within the next 2 month, I'm looking for Preparation possibilities; any idea?

Kind regards,
Berny
